Goblin Debate
The Wizengamot/Goblin Confederation met and voted in favour of Gringotts Bank remaining in Wizarding Hands
Many varied impassioned pleas were made from both parties as the heated discussion was held in the Wizengamot Chambers on Saturday afternoon.
Representatives from the Goblin community argued that Gringotts should remain under the management of Goblinkind with their assistance in helping the creation of a Wizarding Bank – this is despite the fact that it is titled as ‘Gringotts Wizarding Bank’ – with what appeared to be the highlighting of ‘true ownership’ of the current currency which some took as a direct threat to the continued use of Galleons, Sickles, and Knuts within the Wizarding community.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, Minister for Magic Alyssa Merriweather said;
“My point is this. The goblins cannot have two sides of the coin here, so to speak. They must be willing to admit that, while they get their freedom, they lose the right to involve themselves in our affairs and those affairs include our money. Would we allow a foreign nation to control our assets? With their freedoms to construct and bind their own rules and regulations without our consent? I don’t think we would and if this was the case in any other situation, I believe you would all agree with me.”
Speaking on behalf of large businesses, George Macauley, highlighted the abuse of dragons for vault protection due to the limited magical powers of Goblinkind. In allowing Gringotts to be wiza, a larger uptake of vaults, and more jobs for graduates, creating a more prosperous wizarding world.
Dermot Trickelbank of the Department of Magical Revenue further accentuated these points. Likening the Goblin’s requests to Muggle America wanting to keep British Muggle money following their independence he said:
“If goblins are to retain control of the bank now, we are offering them a ripcord they would be able to pull at any time to yank our full economy out from under us with absolutely no recourse. And, barely even any reassurance they wouldn’t do such a thing.
But if wizards finally take control of their own currency and economy, this no longer even becomes an issue. If goblins retain control they may not pull the ripcord right away, but what about in 50 years? 100, after most of us are long gone? Wizards must be the ones to regulate the wizarding economy.
This does not mean that we cannot maintain an amicable relationship with goblins. It merely means making an informed, legal decision so that we separate fully. So that even generations down the line we can ensure that neither of our societies has the tools to utterly destroy the other’s economy.
And, you have my assurance that my office will work tirelessly to ensure there is minimal disruption to the wizarding economy.”
With a majority vote of 59% the confederation voted to ensure that Gringotts Wizarding Bank remained under the management of Wizardingkind.

Heightened Security
New security installed in the Ministry
In preparation for the Goblin debate on Gringotts Bank heightened security was added to the Ministry of Magic Atrium. Insiders revealed that the Department of Magical Law Enforcement implemented the new plans. An insider spoke to The Daily Prophet to reassure that the change will not be permanent following complaints that the view of The Fountain of Fair Fortune – the beautiful fountain that welcomes visitors to the atrium – was obscured.
