Press Statement
April 21, 2031
London, UK – The Ministry of Magic is pleased to announce the implementation of a new decree aimed at supporting the academic recovery of Hogwarts students impacted by extenuating circumstances. This decree, enacted under the authority of Odette Allard, Head of Magical Education, ensures that affected students have the necessary options to continue their education successfully and without undue stress.
Purpose:
This decree has been established to provide a structured and compassionate approach to academic recovery for students who have faced significant educational disruptions due to the mirror world crisis. The goal is to support their progression while addressing their unique circumstances.
OWL Examination Requirement for Fifth Years:
All fifth-year students are mandated to undertake their Ordinary Wizarding Levels (OWLs) by the conclusion of their fifth year at Hogwarts. Failure to fulfill this requirement will result in the necessity to repeat the fifth year of magical education.
- Fifth-year students may sit the exams outside of the prescribed time if:
- An appeal to the Ministry is granted, or
- They are part of a group action put forth by Hogwarts to the Ministry to arrange sitting the exams outside the normal time.
NEWT Examination Requirement for Seventh Years:
Every seventh-year student is obligated to sit for their Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests (NEWTs) by the conclusion of their seventh year at Hogwarts. Failure to adhere to this requirement will result in the student not receiving their NEWT grades.
- Seventh-year students may resit their exams no later than one calendar year following their graduation from Hogwarts if:
- An appeal to the Ministry is granted, or
- They are part of a group action put forth by Hogwarts to the Ministry to arrange sitting the exams outside the normal time.
Opt-Out Provision:
Students who do not wish to undertake the prescribed examinations at the stipulated times may choose to repeat their respective years at Hogwarts. It is important to note that this option is not indicative of academic failure but rather a compassionate measure to allow students to fully recover and prepare adequately under extraordinary circumstances.
Implementation:
This decree shall come into effect immediately and shall be enforced by the appointed educational authorities of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Amendment and Revocation:
This decree may be amended or revoked by Odette Allard, Head of Magical Education at the British Ministry of Magic, as deemed necessary for the welfare and efficiency of magical education.
The Ministry of Magic emphasises that the decision for students to repeat a year is made to accommodate their unique circumstances and ensure they receive the support needed to succeed. This approach should not be viewed as a reflection of their academic abilities but rather as a necessary step for their well-being and future success.
