Through the Looking Glass

It took some time to get sources that were willing to talk. But with the help of a few  here’s what happened with the mirrors.

And  I’m still not giving names, though many are known. Some still want to be kept unknown and I’m respecting that. 

What is known about the mirrors is that Merlin created them,  as I reported in my article “The People in the Mirror”  back in January. He made it to guard a powerful magical item. What is still not known is  why the three. Yes THREE mirrors got put about the castle in locations that students could randomly find them. I do know that the mirrors got used in the Last Task for the Tri Wiz Tournament a few years back. But after that the mirrors were put in a safe place. Not scattered about the castle.

Personally I think the house elf that had the Basilisk came back and moved them about the castle but there’s no proof of that.

Before this year only a handful of people were in the mirrors. According to my source, one of the first to enter the Mirrors this year.  There was a very old knight,  a former professor,  some other adults and a student that had been there for a few years since his first day at the castle. And then this year more and more came.

When did that start? Durning the darkness apparently.  The lack of light made it easy to not see the mirror and brush up against it to get sucked in.  Right at the start of October.  From what I have learned the mirror world that Merlin created kept people  fed, clean and provided places to sleep. At least for a while.

More and more people showed up. Sadly many were tricked into it by the mirror doubles. This happened as the doubles where kinda..programmed, to put people in the mirror if they got figured out to be false.  It’s not that they WANTED to do it, but they had to. As part of the spell to keep the artifact in the mirror safe. They also, as I said in my last article. Could not look in a mirror. Or bad things would happen.

As an aside, among the adults in the mirror was, of all people, Elenor Lovelace.  From the sound of the comments about her I hazard that she got into the mirror world during her end of the year attack on the castle. For those of you that have no idea who that is, she was an evil werewolf that bit Persephone and a few others. The mirror version fell to her death in the grand staircase at the end of my first year.  And apparently the real version in the mirror fell to her death as well. Not that she could leave the mirror. If the mirror version dies, the real version is stuck in the mirror. To which I say good riddance. She was not a nice person and the only nice one of her kids is the only one not in Azkaban. 

Anyway, inside the mirror they had no wands, and no way out.  There was a building with many rooms and a sorta outside.  With trees made of glass according to my source. The lack of wands led to some attempts at making wands. Which is now why some people have false hands. They all also trained to use muggle weapons. Which  comes in handy later as they have to fight things to get out. But I’m not sure how they knew they needed to do this.  I can’t really give a timeline of just when things happened in the mirror as the notes I have don’t have dates. 

At some point they find the item Merlin put in the mirror to guard it. And one person and one person only was able to use  it. But it had to stay in place till it was time for everyone to get out properly. Some teachers ended up in the mirror it seems like over winter break. And  that caused problems for some reason. And some people made it out and that caused MORE problems as it destabilized the mirror world. Making rooms disappear into a void. 

Before they could leave they had to go on a quest to fetch a thing to allow them to communicate with the real world.  This was the first time they had to battle things.  Item was found and messages sent and a date to leave was arranged.  The new moon of February. 

The removal of the item caused more destabilisation as those trapped in the mirror fought to get out.  Rooms disappearing as everyone made their way to where they knew the exit was. LOTS and lots more fighting monsters. Apparently some even left the mirror and the Professors in the dueling room  to help with the exchange of the mirror doubles with the real ones had to fight them as well.  Lots of people got hurt.  And they still had to face their double and make the choice I spoke about in the last article I did.  Most chose to keep the memories of the mirror world. But some did keep the memories of the real world.

And now the mirror realm is gone. Some people were still trapped inside it when it vanished. Either because their mirror person was never located or they were already dead in our world.  But everyones out. Just now have to deal with the trauma of those months trapped from their loved ones. And some, are handling that better then others. So be gentle with those you know where in the looking glass.
