To allow us the opportunity to publish this article Professor O’Keeffe wishes for us to emphatically inform our readers that any attempt to access the orb will result in swift punishment.
We’ve all heard of them, or heard about them. Some people are still terrified of them, blaming them for what happened, and others are just wanting answers about what in Merlin’s name happened.
So to clear up all the confusion now that things have calmed down, and to help people understand, I sat down with the two first members of the cursed ‘Order of the Orb’ – as they called themselves – for an interview to give an explanation; Tom Morgan and Gryffindor Aloy Osiris. Here is the information I learned from them, and from notes found scattered about the castle, about what happened.
The orb is called Lentrillion’s Orb and was created centuries ago by a wizard named, well Lentrillion. It reportedly grants wishes, but there has been no evidence that it actually does that. It seems to vanish and appear at any time, but the Ministry man – Mr. Nagus – that we’ve seen about the castle, has worked out the when and where. How? I dunno that.
The Ministry man, who is Tom’s estranged father, determined it would show up in Hogwarts and appear about the start of April… he just didn’t know exactly where. So he turned to Tom for some help, and Aloy helped Tom as she didnt want him doing it alone (plus two searching would be better in case something bad happened). At this point in time no one knew what would happen if they found it but the two had been told not to touch it, just find it and then tell Mr. Nagus.
After they worked out the password they went around to a whole bunch of walls saying it ‘til one opened. Apparently only children can see the door so that is why Mr. Nagus asked Tom to help. When one wall opened they went inside to a smelly, spider-web filled room. Which sounds just gross – so many webs you could barely move. In it, covered in the webs, was a lot of junk and tucked in a corner was the orb.
This is when disaster struck! They were getting ready to leave to go tell Mr. Nagus without touching anything like they promised when Aloy tripped on some of the junk and fell onto the orb. It was so dark in the room and crammed full of stuff that the accident happened at the worst time. This triggered the curse on it that applies to anyone that touches it. They never MEANT to touch it but between the dark, the junk, and the spiderwebs, a bad bad accident struck.
I’m sure you’re all wondering ‘what does the curse do?’
Well for one it makes you obsessed with protecting the orb, it makes you do anything you can – including hurting people you care about – to keep it safe. It also wants you to bring more people to it so it can spread its influence. Which is why Aloy then pushed Tom onto the orb cursing them both. They then left the room. The curse compelled them to bring more people to it and that’s what they did.
What they didn’t know is that if they can’t go back to the orb every so often it will make you obsessed with getting back to it. So locking up all those that got cursed kinda made it worse. I understand why the professors did it, to keep more from getting cursed, but it’s also why the big fight in the great hall happened; the cursed ones were doing whatever they could to protect the orb and get back to it.
None of those cursed were acting under their own power, all they had a mind to do was obey the orb’s curse; protect it, get back to it, and bring more and more. Why the orb wants so many children is unknown but thankfully a cure to the curse was found and given to all those that were under the influence of it. Upon learning all that they had done they felt horrible. They didn’t mean to do anything, they didn’t want to hurt people. But they did it due to the curse, it was not their fault that it happened.
Our professors now know the location of the door and that is why part of the hall is blocked off in the dungeons and they are working to remove the orb.
