After nearly a month long campaign the Board of Governors election has come to a conclusion. Candidates were elected based on ranked choice, in which each candidate had their votes tallied and the lowest score would earn a higher rank. With the 5th seat being down to one vote, this ordinarily would have triggered a run-off election in which Enoch Marrow and Pip Hawtrey would have gone head-to-head on the ballot, but Mr. Hawtrey conceded the election late Tuesday night, offering his congratulations to Mr. Marrow.
1 Lukka Rookswood 203
2 Killian Koslarevic 207
3 Archibald Colquhoun 247
4 Consus Dechants 255
5 Enoch Marrow 257
6 Pip Hawtrey 258
7 Cecily Braithwaite 451
8 Arkin Owsley 462
Unsurprisingly, it was a very close race among most of the candidates, no doubt bolstered by last minute campaigning this past weekend in Hogsmeade. However, a number of the candidates were mired in controversy which likely caused a shakeup in results. In the last town hall meeting, Arkin Owsley took to one word answers and when asked how he would improve relations with Hogsmeade, he provided a rather defensive non-answer which likely did not sit well with many Hogsmeade citizens. It is not surprising either that Enoch Marrow, who is notorious for frequenting Knockturn Alley, had an uphill battle in this race. Barely squeaking out a victory over Pip Hawtrey, his philanthropic efforts over the weekend likely gave him the edge he needed to persuade voters that his reputation may have been ill-founded. Lukka Rookswood however enjoyed a near landslide victory, along with Killian Koslarevic who came in 40 points over their competition.
Now that the election is concluded, the board will convene next month and begin hearing this term’s agenda. Based on the elected candidates, it is nearly certain that we can expect change to come with regard to the school’s relation to the outside world, though how quickly will remain to be seen.
