This article is for those that still might not be paying full attention to things going on in the castle.
There is a basilisk loose about the castle and it is catching people off guard and petrifying them. Why it’s not killing and eating them, I do not know. But that could start at any moment.
If you do not know, a basilisk is a giant magical snake with extremely poisonous venom, and a gaze that if you get it directly will kill you. If you catch it indirectly, like a reflection or through a window, it will only petrify you. There is a cure for being petrified but it is in short supply right now.
Be on your toes, don’t go anyplace alone but especially do not go to the Long Gallery alone. That seems to be the spot where the majority of the attacks happen, Or near it. A few have happened in other places but most have been In or near the Long gallery. So be wary on that side of the castle!
The grounds are now off limits after 5 and the doors and gates are locked then. Which was fine earlier in the month when it was still dark but is going to be not so fun as spring makes the day last longer.
If you see any clues, or hear any clues, report it! Be extra wary if you hear a snap happen nearby. Like a finger snap, it seems to happen around it. And for Merlin’s sake do not go LOOKING for it. There are ministry people in the castle here that are trained in how to take it out.
Fumos is a good defence as it will make the gaze less and give you a chance to RUN. A lot of people have taken to wearing glasses, myself included, I dunno how much that will help but if it makes you feel safer do it.
Do not, though, carry roosters about. While a rooster’s crow can kill a basilisk The Deputy headmistress has said no to roosters in the castle. Likely due to how gross and messy they are.
Be safe, be careful. It’s scary times right now. But Hogwarts shall overcome!
