It’s that time, once again, dear readers. Time for us to delve deep into the mines of the unknown in search of some gleaming nugget of the future.
Last time we consulted the runes and were advised of some bright and shining light being cast into the shadows or, perhaps, something like a warm and life-giving fire in a vast coldness. It’s been a bit quiet lately but my instincts tell me we’ve yet to see this one come to fruition. Either that or I’m bloody way off.
Only time will tell.
Right then, onto the future and stuff. This week we’ll be going back to a method I did earlier this year but slightly different. Or am I thinking of one I did last year? Bloody hell, I don’t remember but either way we’ll be doing some scrying this week.
Scrying’s where you find some opaque surface to stare into for a bit to get an image or reading or the like. The type of scrying most folks are familiar with is the crystal ball but tonight I’ll be using a ‘scrying mirror’ which doesn’t actually reflect anything so it’s not a very good mirror for day to day use. A scrying mirror’s just a flat piece of black obsidian so it doesn’t reflect a normal image like a proper mirror but if you stare into the dulled and muted reflection long enough an image should form in your mind and you can get your reading that way.
Tonight I’m resting on a little hilltop overlooking the far mountains with my back to the castle and the deep orange sky just starting to fade off into the cold blue of night. As usual, I’ll be asking for some simple and general guidance for all of us regarding the weeks to come.
I lay the little disk of obsidian in my lap and stare deep into it until I go bloody cross-eyed then stare a bit more. At first there’s nothing but after even yet more staring my vision begins to swirl and I get that light headed sorta feeling that tells me it’s working. Then I start to sink deeper and deeper into the mirror until the world around me fades away into a cold black void and nothing exists save myself and the little panel of obsidian.
For a long moment I float about in this quiet and empty nothing but then there’s a glimmer of something in the void. It’s not quite a light but rather a dull presence of something swirling around me, almost seeming to live and breathe. I just peacefully coexist with the presence until an image forms. Not an image that I see with my eyes, mind you, but rather an image I feel in my heart… or something.
Very bloody peculiar.
It seems this presence isn’t quite a singular entity as I’d first suspected but rather several, all swirling in a circle and working together for some common purpose. Actually, they’re all lined up and moving together in a big ring so maybe it’s more like they’re dancing in unison? A big round conga-line perhaps? I’m enraptured by this sight and don’t take my eyes away for a long moment but then I catch several more little “glimmers” that form independently of the ring and quickly join this larger group. A swirl of little fireflies bouncing and dancing against a starless sky.
I watch this strange and curious sight until my eyes burn but once I finally blink the image is gone and I’m once again sitting on the hilltop, the sky now a deep dark purple. It’s bloody freezing out but for some time I don’t move and just reflect on the sight and allow the image to properly sink in.
The immediate message seems to be urging us toward teamwork and community and all that but these things aren’t always quite so easy. It could possibly be a warning against doing just that because, after all, fully investing ourselves into a group can make our own individual identities get a bit muddied and diluted. Seemed to be what was happening with our void-folk, yeah? They all lined up and sort of “danced” in the circle till all you could see was the circle itself and the individuals were hard to make out.
Fascinating. In this case I believe it’s actually both a bit of guidance and a warning. The main emphasis seemed to be on the group and, of course, community and teamwork and all that’s important in life and stuff, especially now that we’re in quidditch season proper. So we’re being advised by the powers of the cosmos to focus on teamwork and all that but don’t let your own identity be defined by the company you keep or the groups you belong to.
After all, our communities are only as strong as their individuals and without us they’d be nothing.
Reckon that’s plenty enough heavy junk for this week but keep your eyes open and you just might see me in… the future!!
