Welcome to Weekly Portents, your one and only source for all things prophetic! In Weekly Portents I, the one and only Riven Redwhisper, will be giving a special reading to let you know what to expect at Hogwarts in the coming days, weeks, months, and beyond! But that’s not all, dear reader! The cards tell me you should expect much much more in the future including personal readings to answer questions you’ve submitted, tips and tricks to improve your own Divinations game, and I even have an interview lined up with a real live seer!
What are the Sooths saying? What are the Oracles orating? What are the augers articulating? Check in each week to find out!
21/10/2028
Good day to you all and welcome to another week of important Portants.
Last week we used a spooktacular Divination method using real live bones to peer into the future! Well, not live bones of course but real animal bones (sourced humanely from the kitchens). It’s still October and I know I should probably keep up with the whole spooky and Halloween-y Divs method but these readings have been giving me loads of mixed messages so we’re going back to basics.
Tarot!
We’ll be doing another little three card spread in a straight line. Left the past, middle the present, and right the future, You know the drill. Probably.
Anyway, my venue for tonight is an old and seemingly abandoned room of the castle whose location I’ve been sworn to keep secret or else face dire consequences. Even if I wanted to, it’d be bad karma to break that promise and we certainly don’t want that tainting the cards tonight, do we!?
The room is still and quiet and illuminated by the pale glimmer of moonlight trickling through the dusty old windows. Full moon tonight too and that can only strengthen our sight into the future! Sort of like magic bifocals or something.
As always, let’s take a long deep breath and focus our mind’s eye on the future. I shuffle and shuffle until my heart tells me it’s the right time to stop. For whatever reason I’ve decided to take a cue from everyone’s favorite Arithmancy professor and throw some number stuff in there. Unfortunately I didn’t bring my notes so we’re going to have to wing it.
First, the day of the month. The twentieth right now so I pull the twentieth card down from the top and sit it off to the left. Then the month, October so I find the tenth card down from that one and place it in the middle. The year’s a bit tricky though. There’s loads of cards but not that many so we’ll do the combining thing the professor talked about. 2+0+2+8=12 so I grab the 12th card from down from the last one and place it on the right.
I gently rest my fingertips atop the first card and take a long deep breath but something makes me stop!! It’s at this point I realise I didn’t ask a question or really focus on anything for this reading. That kind of thing usually matters when you’re doing this but don’t fret dear reader! Me forgetting this very crucial part of the process was obviously all part of the universe’s plan! Besides, it’s a bit exciting having no idea whatsoever what to expect.
Enough suspense. I flip the first card, the past, and…
Three of Cups, upright
Interesting. This card usually represents camaraderie or relationships with those closest to us. The card itself depicts three happy ladies dancing and raising their cups. Oh right! This is the pumpkin card! In the bottom corner is a pumpkin so we’re getting Halloween-y already. Someone should tell the cards that Halloween is, in fact, in the future and not the past but let’s see what’s next
The middle card. The present…
Ace of Cups, reversed
Typically another happy card and usually also all about joy and positive relationships or good news. Except this one’s reversed which isn’t so happy. Might be referring to sadness or emotions being all bottled up but could be something like a breakup or falling out with friends. Wait. Right, I think I know what this is about and some of you do too.
Moving on then, the last card…
The Sun, upright
This is good. Really good, especially following that last one. The sun radiates warmth and positivity. Happiness and joy. Can be all about rebirth and things like that with the sun rising high in the sky and wiping out the darkness of the night. Maybe you, like the sun, will rise high in the sky and shower the world with your warmth.
Time to put this together.
It seems the Three of Cups is calling our attention to the lovely relationships we’ve had in the past but the reversed Ace is referring to a relationship which was lost or fell apart. In those situations, even the good and happy memories of the past can be painful and we just want to bury them or hide from them. But The Sun is the light at the end of the tunnel or that warmth that keeps getting closer and closer as we run toward it, trying to escape the cold. I think we’re being told that, though you may not feel it now, warmth is there and waiting for you. Just keep running forward and you’ll find it.
That’s all for today, thank you for reading.
If you have a question you’d like answered in Weekly Portents please send a self addressed stamped owl ((notecard)) to Riven Redwhisper ((luka5555 resident)). Your identity will remain anonymous unless you specifically request otherwise. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee the results of these readings and we also regret that we may be unable to answer everyone’s questions every week. Rest assured, however, that we’ll do everything in our power to answer as many people as we can as accurately as we can.
