With Valentine’s Day behind us the countdown to the second task is on. Nora’s Bookies are open for business and speculation is rife as to what the Second Task will be on February 27th. Who better to theorise
With the first task still fresh in the minds of the castle dwellers I’ll be brief explaining that the champions faced a nundu, snallygaster, and an occamy.
In 2021 the task laid before the champions were three mazes filled with obstacles finishing with magical fire to retrieve a clue to the next task. And way back in 1994 the champions faced dragons, again, to retrieve a clue to the next task.
With loch temperatures that barely creep above 6 degrees in February the second task in the 1994-95 Triwizard Tournament saw the nearest and dearest of the Champions being stolen away by the mermaids of the Black Lake and following on in the same theme, during the 2021 Second Task the champions dove again into the depths of the Black Lake to retrieve puzzle pieces to lead them in the next task.
The third task..
Wait Nora, I hear you ask, why are you talking about the third task and not what you think the second task will be? Well hold onto your knickerbockers as we dive into the third task of 1994-5. A great maze was grown for the champions to find their way to the centre of a maze to get their hands on The Triwizard Cup (the less said about the grizzly murder and the rebirth of you-know-who the better, if you don’t know then you need to stop sleeping in History of Magic).
The 2021 Third Task led the champions into a magically created dome where they had to answer a riddle to be dropped into the cloud filled arena below to hunt down the Cup.
Now why, Nora, did you make us read an entire extra paragraph I hear you ask!
There’s a common theme between the two Triwizard Tournaments that have happened and that’s the four elements!
If you believe this theory then logic dictates that the next task will follow this trend. Don’t believe me? We’ll look again; 1994-5 the dragons symbolised fire and air, the lake is obviously water, and the maze symbolised earth. In 2021 the maze symbolised earth and fire, the lake again symbolised water, and the magical domes symbolised air.
And So far we’ve seen air for the first task.
Air, Nora?! What are you talking about?
The snallygaster flies, and the occamy has wings, and the nundu has it’s deadly breath.
So realistically what could be next?
Will the Champions have to survive swirlies in the bogs? Face fiendfyre? Be buried alive? Or a combination? The Owl Post asked around to see what people think it could next be.
– Aloy Osiris, Gryffindor, Dueling Champion and Role Model
Well it HAS to be something extremely epic, no? I guess my theory for the first task wasn’t that accurate, but second time’s a charm. Or is it third?.. Anyway we don’t have time for that. So I said they’d bring inferi, and the champions would have to fight without their wands. Now it seems unlikely, and I don’t know what I was thinking. I say it’s probably going to be fire related? Or birds. Wasn’t it a cocoon? Maybe insects. UGH I bloody hate them, they’re so little and disgusting and.. wait, where was I? No, no, it must be fire. Or water. Or birds. Or cockroaches.
– Jamie Koslarevic, Gryffindor
Maybe linked to water and earth – They’ll have to find something important to them and bring it back. You know not like the cocoon but something personal.
– Marigold Feathersweet, Hufflepuff
Maybe something with giant insects …or magical ones at least…since they had to fetch a cocoon thing?”
– Dominik Katzen, Durmstrang
I am thinking this will be race with unstoppable force. There will be obstacles at every turn. They will be using toboggans und almost flying down the hills. Going very very fast and if ist something in way turn! This ist my advice.
– Caitlin Spector, Hufflepuff
I don’t know what the challenge itself is going to be. I just think it’s going to be one of two environments, either something in the water, or in the air. Like a challenge that requires a broom with certain goals they have to meet before going on to the next one.
– Ataka Peyroux, Slytherin
*Walked off before explaining how she “knew” the next task would be on water and the champions were to be drowned by the squid*
Natalie Costigan, Slytherin
Maybe they will be sent into the forbidden forest or maybe something cool with Transfiguration…You never know it could be a repeat of snallygaster…!
– Octavia Dechants, Slytherin
Well, going off what happened with the last task, I’m assuming Strangeland and Duarte will be having a competition to see who can drink a cup of tea without milk and sugar the fastest without crying while Elliott has to try to break out of a box full of knife-wielding Dementors.
– Morgan Atheria, Ravenclaw
I’m betting it has something to do with the black lake. That kappa in the Defense Against the Dark Arts room can’t be for nothing, right? …. A Grindylow and a Kappa I heard. Maybe they’ll have to fight them? Or retrieve something they’re guarding?
– Finlay Tarbet, Slytherin
Trial course on brooms, flying all around and having to make sharp turns or crash into barbed bushes. With jumps as [the] broom goes through Rings ! Maybe maybe even [a] section where they have to try [to] fly underwater!! .. “
