Welcome back to the Hogwarts Spotlight – this time, we are shining the light on one of our foreign students. Today, it is shining on the lovely Cardan Duarte, a sixth year from Beauxbatons who has just been announced as the Beauxbatons Champion as well! She started life in Braga, Portugal, but her parents and her moved to Paris when she was really little. “I will consider Braga as my hometown for the reset of my life,” she explained.
When I asked her if she thought there was a Hogwarts house for her, she declined to answer but responded with a reason as to why she did not want to choose one. “Like Angelou once said, ‘No one comes from the earth like grass. We come like trees. We all have roots.’ Beauxbatons is my root,” she quoted, which seems like a good quote.
However (and sorry Cardan, this is a question we always ask) when asked about her favourite memory of Hogwarts thus far, she answered with “Putting my name into the Goblet of Fire – Not just for me, but for the Durmstrang students as well.” This probably leads into her fear, as she is scared that she will disappoint her family, her Headmistress, or even herself. On the other end, she did say she probably won’t disappoint herself, quoting once more with, “As Kosova once said, ‘I am the perfect version of me.'”
Speaking of Beauxbatons, I switched up the questions to how her life was back at the school. When I asked her what her favourite subject was, she answered with Charms, by saying it was Charms. She further explained that it is very classic and teaches you all the basic things to be successful. “It still has its charm,” she joked, chuckling about how charms has its charms. She loves charms enough that when asked about her future, she thought about going back to Portugal and creating charm spells.
As for after class stuff, she likes to be around and pick flowers – muggle ones to be specific since the magical ones are too much work. “The mundane ones, ones you can collect and take with you. These are my favourite. I always try to have a daisy with me,” she commented before going into another quote. “Put your dreams in the scent of daisies.”
And from a sweet quote to sweet things in particular, her favourite ice cream is French vanilla with strawberries. She says they remind her of her friend. “Who doesn’t like sweets? Even bees like the sweet – they hate the sour, hate the tasteless. Tasteless people don’t like sweets.” As for her other favourites, she really loves her home team, Braga Broomfleet! Though she has yet to see any of the matches. As for her favourite music, she sticks to the classics such as Debussy and Ravel, and is not a fan of rock. “Too much Noise”
So, if you are into the classical arts, picking up flowers, or love quotes, Champion Duarte would be just the person to meet. Also, if you know anything about the Braga Broomfleet, I am willing to bet that she would talk with you. Whatever the topic, give this gal from Beauxbatons a warm welcome to Hogwarts and a congratulations on being picked.
