Exploring stories the Tarot tells, one card at a time
The Emperor
Today, we will look at the card known as The Emperor. It is the fourth of the Major Arcana cards in most traditional Tarot decks.
General Interpretation
The Major Arcana card known as The Emperor, represents an older man of means and capability. The Emperor is a solid, stable, powerful, grounded figure, and can be a protector, but also rigidly stubborn. In a reading, he can represent a father, father-figure, or a romantic interest.
If The Emperor Tarot card appears in a “past position”, it can indicate that the father figure in your life was authoritarian and lacking in affection. If it appears in a reading of present or future issues, it positively indicates a wiser, older man will give you sound advice or lead you in a good direction. If not representing a person in your life, The Emperor signifies logic over emotion or mind over heart. It signifies that structure, stability, and focus is required if you want to make your ideas and dreams a reality.
The Emperor indicates that your hard work will be noticed and rewards of status or success are on the way. Concentration and perseverance are needed, however. The Emperor is a sign that you need to be responsible and practical, but not a tyrant when it comes to business matters. The Emperor Tarot card can indicate that you are neglecting aspects of yourself in favour of physical or material gain. Explore your sensitive side and stay grounded and protected.
