As the events of the beginning of February begin to fade into the back of our minds, almost too soon to be forgotten by students and almost hushed by the faculty that were involved in the the event as well, if you’ve already forgotten let’s refresh your memory. On January 31st five Hogwarts students went missing, their names have not been released but I’m sure if you were there you’d know who they were. A school wide search began for the students. This search was lead by faculty, along with older years in the castle taking groups of student turning over common rooms, dorms, and classrooms in search for the student. At last they were found, but not without peril it seems, they had run into some bad luck with a pack of ‘wolves’. One student unfortunately was attacked, but there was mentioned there was no bite to be seen, for this student’s sake I hope this holds true.
Whilst the week passes us by in a flurry of rose petals, glitter, and hearts with the impending dance approaching some of us are left with questions and no answers, but perhaps the answers were already given to us in between the lines of the information we have been given. Luckily my quill was very quick on the draw when the Deputy Headmistress addressed the matter, and I’ve had time to review the speeches several times to draw my own conclusions. Now this may not be the view of the Owl Post, or even the view of the student body here at Hogwarts, but the view of one young Ravenclaw that you can agree or disagree with.
Firstly we will address the speech given to us the night after these events took place. It wasn’t a very long speech to say the least, but it wasn’t the speech that impacted me so much as the look on the DHM’s face, and her body language, there were more to her words than what she spoke on. She looked tired, more tired than she should, yes running a school with hundreds of students and faculty members is tiring, stressful, and many other things, but if you know the DHM she does not usually wear these signs on her face. She gripped the podium as if it was the only thing holding her up as she gave the speech, we were thankful that no students were bitten, but students were not the only humans in the woods that night. The mention of wolves in or around the grounds is unsettling as well, wolves are not known to be in this country which is something to think about.
Now let’s fast forward to the Sunday feast which seemed to go as normal as any other typical Sunday in the castle until, the DHM decided to make another informative/non informative speech. It began as normal as any other Sunday feast speech addressing house points and such, but it ended almost with a warning in between the lines. As the weather outside the castle worsened the DHM decided to comment on the fact that ‘a storm was brewing’ and it rang through the Great Hall as crisp as a bell. Perhaps she was talking about the weather outside but to this Eagle it felt as if the castle shifted as she spoke those four simple words, as if the castle was welcoming the challenge of yet another storm around it’s walls. It is true the castle has battled many storms from the unforgiving weather to the great war, which begs the question what ‘storm’ should we all be preparing for. As I look out the window of the library as I write this to you, the weather is gloomy the snow is falling heavily and yet I’m more afraid of what’s out there in the snow than the snow itself.
As another week passes bringing us to another Sunday feast, the excitement of the Hearty Party still hung in the air causing all worries of recent events to fade away. That is, until our beloved DHM addressed the castle again with another looming warning that changes are coming. As she spoke once more on the weather the seriousness of her face grew, speaking of longer days and darker nights. Her speech was short and simple to those who were not focusing entirely on their surroundings here at the castle but to those whom have had focus on the events, it spoke in many different levels. We should prepare for the dark times, my friends, whether it be to take up arms against it or simply train to lumos in a dark situation. Either way this Eagle would advise keeping your wands close and the people you care about closer.
