September 2026 update
Becoming employed as an adult is now as easy as going into the business or Ministry Department you wish to be employed at, locating the job application near the door (or on the notice board if one is available), clicking it and selecting “join”. There is no longer a need to fill out the old audit form or make an appointment in the Revenue office in the Ministry, once you have joined a business using the application, you will receive weekly payments.
Important!: This only establishes your pay! Clicking “Join” on the application does not mean you are fully onboarded and can do whatever you want! In order to establish your job role, responsibilities, receive the appropriate groups, and title, you must speak to the business owner or manager.
To join a Ministry Department, you must fill out this form first, and then the Department Head will contact you: https://forms.gle/4eCcjKyvps2w9g4M7
If you join a business and the owner or Department Head does not recognize you because you’ve never communicated in any way, they are likely to fire you. If the business does not have an owner listed, please contact ALO after joining.
The job application:
Clicking the application gives the option to either join or leave that business, and also list the employees. If you are already employed at one business and click “join” on a new one, you will automatically leave the old business. The employee list will display the character names, the avatar names, and the last date that employee was seen at that business. It will also denote owners and managers of that business. If you are an employee, please contact the manager of the business before the owner.
Owning a business:
In order to own a business, your character will still need to make an appointment with Dermot in the Revenue department (1st floor of the Ministry, click the glass box on the desk to make an appointment). Many businesses are already owned by players, and there are a limited number of businesses which may be owned. Business owners are expected to be active on the SIM to promote RP with their employees. Brand new players will not be considered for owning a business.
Owning a business involves taking out a loan (the money for said loan is only on paper, not in the HUD). Once your business is set up, you will receive a percentage of sales though you must retrieve it from the till periodically. As a business owner you may do with your profits as you see fit, though your employees will surely appreciate bonuses.
Businesses may have any number of owners and managers, however only one person will receive funds from the till. In order to change owners and managers please contact Dermot in the Revenue office of the Ministry.
Owners and managers still need to click the job application and click “join” to establish employment at that business. If an owner or manager is removed for inactivity, they have until OOC staff gets around to removing them from the script to rejoin the business and retain their owner status. OOC staff is notified automatically when owners are removed due to inactivity.
Managing a business:
Owners and managers are both able to use the job application to fire employees. Managers are not able to fire owners, however.
Activity requirements:
In order to remain employed, you must RP within chat range of the job application at minimum once every 3 months. Characters who have not RP’d at their place of work within 3 months will be automatically removed from their job and no longer receive pay. Owners and managers should also keep track of their employment rosters on their own and remove anyone who is known to be inactive or who has left the business but neglected to remove themselves using the job application.
Pay:
Base pay for all employees, including owners and managers, is 10g/week (note that you do not receive back pay for weeks you are inactive). Owners are encouraged to distribute additional funds received from their sale profits based on activity, IC reasons, or however they see fit.
Appropriate use:
- If you have been fired from a job, do not rejoin that business unless you have worked things out with the business owner in RP. Abusing the join/leave job function will be considered harassment.
- After joining a business, do not put your job title in your HUD titler without speaking with the owner or manager first. Misrepresenting your character in your titler may carry an OOC infraction.
