Christmas is, for all children, the most magical time of the year. The holiday spirit is not created only by the lights, the carols, or the family gatherings when several students return to their homes, but also by the deep sense of wonder that gathers around the Christmas tree. There, beneath branches decorated with shining ornaments, ribbons, and tiny twinkling lights, children place dreams, hopes, and wishes they have built throughout the year. The tree becomes a symbol of everything they long for and, at the same time, a space where their dreams can come true.
Our children and young students at Hogwarts are no exception. For this reason, in this space, we have wanted to explore those Christmas dreams, wishes, or fantasies that many Hogwarts students are surely hoping to see come true when they walk down to the foot of the tree this December 25th.
To begin our recount, our fourth-year Hufflepuff classmate, Muriel Maple, told us that what she wants most is another copper cauldron, since she finds it quite hard to keep the entire Quidditch team supplied with training snacks when she only has two. Hopefully Santa will work his magic not only for her, but also for the entire yellow team, who will be happily well-fed.
Our sixth-year Gryffindor classmate, Ben Coletti, simply prefers a new essential tool to help him reach new heights, so a new broomstick will be the ideal gift for him to find beneath the Christmas tree.
Olivia MacCoinnich, our first-year Gryffindor student, hopes to find a new camera under the Christmas tree so she can continue nurturing her love for photography, capturing our wonderful school and her beloved friends. For Olivia, being able to preserve her best moments is truly important.
For her part, our sixth-year Slytherin classmate Noelle Coinin tells us that, among all the things she would wish for this Christmas, such as seeing her family happy, this time she hopes to find a book of spells or a box of assorted plants under the tree, since she absolutely loves plants. But if that’s not possible, a photo frame would make her happy as well.
Our sixth-year Ravenclaw classmate, Trin Paige, hopes to find more books under the Christmas tree to read throughout the year, as well as some wizarding music, such as the work of the Weird Sisters.
And our first-year Ravenclaw classmate, Alwyn Gwynther, was much more specific about what he hopes to find under the tree this Christmas. He is wishing for Wixen Story Folklore Books and Novels so he can delight in the most well-known folklore and witchcraft tales of our magical world.
As for me, I can tell you that I really enjoy writing and drawing, so I would love to find a pair of endless magical notebooks under the Christmas tree, along with a new set of quills and ink, so I can write and draw without stopping until my very last year of studies.
And you? What do you hope to find under the Christmas Tree?
You can send us an owl with your letter to share your wishes. Maybe you also will have a magical Christmas beneath the tree.
