Oopsie Gryffindor Apple Nachos
This recipe was created after a mistake from Gryffindor Hangout… though I do say, I think its pretty wicked. The other night at the Gryffindor hangout, I had this brilliant idea: dessert pizza. Specifically, a caramel apple dessert pizza that looked way too good to resist when I found Professor Moore was creating one. Fluffy crust, gooey caramel, crisp apple slices, drizzled with even more caramel—it sounded like heaven.
The reality? Well… let’s just say my “pizza” turned out to be more of a sticky, sliding pile of apples clinging desperately to a soggy crust. It wasn’t terrible, but it was definitely not shareable unless your friends are cool with using a spoon and calling it “rustic.”
So, in true Gryffindor spirit, I improvised. I ditched the crust entirely, grabbed the apple slices, and dunked them right into caramel. Honestly? Way easier. Way tastier. Way less cleaning up melted caramel off any common room rug.
The Original Plan: Caramel Apple Dessert Pizza. The recipe calls for sugar cookie dough as a crust, baked golden, then spread with a cream cheese mixture and topped with caramel-coated apples. Gorgeous. Perfect. Top Date Snack Worthy?
Ana’s version? Half the apples slid off the crust, the cream cheese mixture melted into a puddle, and my fellow Gryffindors gave me that look—the one that says “We love you, but maybe not your cooking right now.”
The improvised recipe; enter Plan B: Apple Nachos. Same idea, zero stress. Slice apples, spread them on a plate, drizzle caramel, toss on some chocolate chips or nuts, and you’re done. Looks fancy, eats like a snack, no pizza crust required. This saved the night. Anyone can dig in, no forks needed, and suddenly my “disaster” was a win.
Ingredients
- 2 cups thinly sliced apples
- 2 tablespoons caramel sauce
- 2 tablespoons chocolate sauce
- 1 tablespoon sprinkles
- 1 tablespoon miniature chocolate chips
Instructions
- Arrange the apples on a plate.
- Drizzle the apples with the caramel and chocolate sauces.
- Top with sprinkles and chocolate chips and serve immediately.
Notes :
– This recipe is best when served right away, as the apples can brown if they sit out for a long period of time. If you need additional time, soaking the apples in 1 cup of cool water with a tablespoon of salt mixture will help the apples from browning.
– I like to use a combination of red and green apples. Some of my favorite varieties include Pink Lady, Granny Smith, Fuji and Honey Crisp apples.
Lessons Learned (aka Ana’s Kitchen Wisdom)
- Not everything needs a crust. Sometimes simple is better.
- Caramel is sticky. Like, everywhere sticky. Beware.
- Always have apples handy.
So next time you’re craving a caramel apple treat, skip the drama of dessert pizza and go straight for nachos or dip. Trust me—your robes, your rug, and your roommates will thank you.
