Hi everyone and welcome back for another set of prefect interviews. This time: Slytherin! Just as before, each prefect was asked the same set of eleven questions. Let us jump right in and learn about those that represent the house.
To start the article off, I asked each prefect their name, their year, and their favourite class. First, we have Angel Peyroux, a seventh year student who loves Defence Against the Dark Arts. Next was Atlas Moreu, another seventh year. She couldn’t decide between Charms or Care of Magical Creatures so she picked both. Next was Rajaht Cain Bakshi, a sixth year Slytherin who likes Artificing. Last but not least we have Iris Santana, who stated that her favourite was divinations because it is what her family is known for.
After that easy question, I asked all four of them their favourite memory. Angel responded by saying that hers was when she was in a Mock Wizengamot Trial. Another for her was when she became prefect. “I have so many good and favourite memories here so it is hard to say,” she explained. As for Atlas, she said hers would be this past summer due to Cuba and the camp. Rajaht definitely wins the cutest memory as he shared the time when he first found his cat, Khan, after protecting them from a whole bunch of rats. Iris had the mysterious memory, something about hearing music and singing around the docks just before winter break during her second year.
Continuing on with tough questions, I then asked them how they show what it means to be a Slytherin. Angel said she shows that not everyone in Slytherin is mean and that she is a hard worker. “My individuality is what makes me Slytherin,” is how she put it at the end. For Atlas, she said that she embodies ambition and sets high goals for herself. Rajaht said he shows what it means to be a Slytherin in that he doesn’t like wasting words and movement, as he tries to always be efficient. Iris, on the other hand, did not want to be forced into a trait. That is understandable. However, from what I could tell, she is pretty self-reliant, which makes me think of my sister who was also a prefect for Slytherin when she was here.
The next question asked of them was how they relaxed after a hard day. Angel hangs out with her friends or she goes out to the lake, her feet in the mud. Sounds like a nice day out during the weekend. Atlas likes to roam the grounds and sketches any of the creatures she sees. Rajaht likes to read against the trees around the grounds. He also likes to nap as well. Iris kept hers short and sweet, saying “I study and read.”
I then asked them which house do they think they would be in if the hat did not put them in Slytherin. Angel said Hufflepuff and both Rajaht and Iris said Ravenclaw. Atlas did not give a direct answer as she had never thought of herself being in a different house. She did, however, say that they were all great.
Before going into what I considered fun questions, I asked them all for any advice they would want to give to us first years. Angel gave the advice of, “Be young, be wild, and legit have fun,” before adding on that we should not get into trouble. “It is not okay to stick your hand in the fire, even if you hear ‘Flamma Frigus,’” Atlas suggested, which makes sense. If the person failed the spell, we would be the ones that would get hurt. Rajaht had the most to say. “Enjoy this moment, play a lot, and make friends. Don’t be in a hurry of growing up too fast. You will learn fast and get to where you want in due time, no need to rush,” he said. As for Iris, it came down to letting people figure out things the hard way and that we cannot do everything.
As we moved on to the fun questions, I asked about what magical creature they would want as a pet if they could have any. Angel said a thunderbird because she likes rainy and cloudy days. Atlas said Occamies because they can change sizes. Rajaht answered with what seems to be the coolest one: a chimaera – it is almost like having multiple pets in one! I wonder what someone would name it if they had one as a pet – probably something like Tucker. As for Iris, she suggested a unicorn because they are cool.
The next question was about spells – specifically picking one spell if they could only use one for the rest of their life. Angel said Verum Permuto because she could change one thing into another thing depending on what is needed. Atlas said she would pick the Patronus charm, which she explained to me that it is a defence spell based on happy thoughts. “Aguamenti,” suggested Rajaht. Iris said that she would pick either ‘Flagrante’ or just apparition.
Speaking of defensive spells, I asked them all about how they would defend themselves from a magical alligator. Angel had probably the simple answer of letting it take her because she wouldn’t know what to do. Atlas also gave a simple answer in the form of staying away from it. However, she did hear something about magical bacon. Rajaht said that he wouldn’t defend himself from one as magical alligators are his friends. He would leave some food for it at a safe distance to make sure it is well fed and not cranky. I wonder if that works on cranky sisters. Lastly, he would then lead it back to its nesting area. Iris had the fun answers of hopping onto a broom and flying away.
Moving from creatures to plants, the prefects were asked what kind of music both Edna and the Whomping Willow would like. “Edna likes bagpipes,” she said. When asked about the Willow, she answered, “ Nothing as I have been hit in the face by that tree, so it can take me too.” Atlas suggested that Edna would like calm music that “feels like it is slowly getting bigger.” On the other hand, the Whomping Willow would like loud, strong music because it “makes you want to move, because it is always swinging its branches.” Rajaht responded by saying that he thinks they would like funk and swing and that his cousin sings for them. Lastly, Iris said that they would probably like some genre that is called indie folk, because it is nice and soothing.
Last question focused on Quidditch, mainly the equipment. “If Quidditch equipment could take, what would they be like?” I asked them. Angel says that they would form a union because of their treatment. Atlas was the most creative as she said the snitch would be the sly and slick type, the bludgers would have short tempers and aloud voices, the quaffles would be friendly and easy going, while the brooms would be the serious ones. Rajaht suggested that the quaffle would be helpful, the snitch would tease, and the bludger would go, “Ouch.” As for Iris, she said they would probably be a bit lonely.
And there you have it – the Slytherin prefects. Hopefully you now know them better along with some questions to think about yourself. What is your favourite memory? What animal would you want? What spell would you pick? How would YOU defend yourself against the magical alligator?
