Hello all and welcome to the Gryffindor Prefects Interview. Each prefect was asked the same set of eleven questions and I hope you have as much fun reading this as I had fun asking the questions. Hopefully, you’ll learn something too – I definitely did!
Starting off, I asked them for their name, year, and favourite class just to start the interview off easy. For this year, we have Mallory McGann, a fifth year, whose favourite class is Care of Magical Creatures. However, Art is a very close second for her. We also have Piper “Pipes” Novak, another fifth year, who loves the Charms class. Noah Rothenberg, a seventh year, would rather be in either Transfiguration or Defence Against the Dark Arts. Lastly, we have Lysandra, who also loves Defence and Charms.
The second question I gave, asking for their favourite memories, definitely was an eye opener for how life at Hogwarts is. Mallory talked about the time she and a few other students were tasked with solving some sort of puzzle box. Apparently, she also got petrified around this time. Piper said her favourite memory was “meeting the Triwizard students” because she was able to learn about their cultures while they visited. As for Noah, he chose the Hearty Party that happened in his fifth year, mostly due to the costume he put together along with just the fun he had that night. For Lysandra, her favourite memory was her “first gig with Misery Magic.” As for what Misery Magic was, it was a student rock brand that comprised of her, “Aures, Tove, Lulu, and Bobby.”
Since these were the Gryffindor Prefects I was interviewing, I asked, “How do you think you show what it means to be a Gryffindor?” Mallory answered with barely any pause between the question and her response: “Acting first before thinking about it.” On the other hand, Piper answered with, “Expressing your feelings without filter [and] sticking up for those who are unable to themselves.” Being himself is what Noah said was his most shining Gryffindor trait before explaining that there is quite a bit of pressure to change who one is, or as he says, “Conform to fit certain moulds.” As for Lysandra, she was not fully sure but it would probably have to be because she’s “stubborn and [she] really [tries] to protect whatever needs protecting no matter the consequences.”
After that stressful question, I thought it would be fun to ask them how they all relax after a stressful day. Mallory did a lot of stuff to relax, such as walking in the transfiguration corridor with her shoes off, climbing the tree that is in that area, as well as just drawing in general – especially in the colder months. Piper also liked being creative although her outlet was painting. She also likes to go down to the loch to watch the water beasties. Noah likes destressing with stress – that is to say, he likes to exercise. When he isn’t exercising, he is either hanging out with Jamie or goofing off with his family. However, Lysandra has my favourite response for this question; for her, she likes to nap.
With that stress-less question out of the way, I went back to another stressful question: “If you weren’t in Gryffindor, which other house would you be in?” Both Mallory and Piper said Ravenclaw. However, Mallory also said Slytherin along with Noah. Lysandra was the lone Hufflepuff.
After that, I asked them about what they would tell all of us first years. “Stick together as a group,” suggested Mallory, mentioning how strange things happen every year. She also added on to “pick an older housemate or two to help out when you need it.” As for Piper, she said that we should not do things “because others say you should or to be cool,” before repeating the ‘ask for help’ suggestion Mallory had. Noah suggested that because of all the wild things that happen here at school that we should keep our wits about us and keep our eyes open. Lysandra also repeated what the others have said but also added, “Don’t be stupid.” which makes sense with all the stuff that can hurt us out there.
Speaking of things that could hurt us, I asked the prefects that if they could have any magical creature, what would it be and why? Mallory stated that she would want a thestral because they are “beautifully unique.” Pipe would want an Augurey because it would help her Sailor dad stay safe. She also likes how beautiful the birds are to look at. Noah would rather have a Phoenix because they are cool. As for Lysandra, she wants a unicorn. “A horse and an enemy impaler in one,” she explained. To be honest, that is an amazing answer.
To keep up with asking questions to make them think, I asked, “ If you could only cast one spell for the rest of your life, which spell would you pick?” Mallory said she would have to pick the Locomotor spell. “Being able to move things around might come in the most handy,” she explained. “Scourgify,” Piper answered because she “[hates] having to clean things.” Noah answered with Apparition, which does sound useful if you do not like how long traveling takes. Lysandra answered with “Protego” because shields and protections are always needed.
With spells on the mind, especially the shield spell, I had to ask them for a bit of defence help. Since there is a magical alligator in the loch, I asked them how they would defend themself against it. Both Mallory and Piper agreed that a full body-bind spell should work on the beast. Noah, however, said he would use the terrain to his advantage and try to freeze the water it is in. He then added that he might instead turn the reeds into giant snakes or to use another alligator to beat the magical alligator. As for Lysandra, she said she would throw a steak at it, mount her unicorn, and ride off into the sunset.
For the second to last question, I asked all of them what kind of music do they think that Edna and the Whomping Willow like. Show tunes was Mallory’s answer, thinking that they would “absolutely love musicals.” Piper agreed that Edna was a show tunes plant; however, she thought the Willow would be into eighties rock. Noah had the funniest answer, though, saying that they would find the wails of their victims to be music. As for Lysandra, she said that Edna would be into smooth jazz while the Whomping Willow is “most definitely a metal-head with a soft spot for Puccini’s operas.” As for why Puccini specifically and who he is, you’ll have to ask her.
Lastly, I asked the four probably the most interesting question they would have: If the Quidditch equipment could talk, what would they be like? Mallory said that they would be all whiney and that they would complain a lot, especially about how much abuse they take. The brooms are ridden too hard, the bludgers are beaten around, bats are splintering and breaking. “They’d all be unbearable to listen to,” she finished. As for Piper, she said that they would sound like a bunch of chavs, “Unintelligent and think that they are all high and mighty.” Noah? He said they would be angry, for nearly the same reasons that Mallory listed.
And Lysandra? She gave each one a bit more of a personality. The Quaffle would be the supportive one, all warm and friendly. They would probably be the coach. The snitch, however, would be cocky and have an ego but would be “really smart and they’d have a lot of cool catchphrases.” As for the bludgers, she said that they would be “loud, probably a bit psychotic to the point where it is starting to be rather concerning.” She also said that they would be funny and hilarious.
There you have it – all four Gryffindor Prefects. Hopefully you now know them better along with some questions to think about yourself. What is your favorite memory? What animal would you want? What spell would you pick? How would YOU defend yourself against the magical alligator?
