This is a fun way to eat lots of fruit with a crunchy sugar coating! It’s a treat popular in China and Japan. Super easy and super yummy. But not long lasting you want to make and eat these in the same day. Good for a quick party food! It’s traditionally made with hawberry but you can use most any fruit that is small or able to be cut into small pieces.
Ingredients
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 lb strawberries or other fruit of choice

- Candy thermometer
- sheet pan
- parchment paper, wax paper or silicone baking mat OR a rack you can hook the skewers in
- Skewers
- Saucepan
- Cooking spray – optional

- Wash and pat dry strawberries or fruit of choice.
- Arrange fruit on a bamboo skewer. Depending on weight and size, place 1-3 pieces of fruit per skewer. Set aside
- Bring water and sugar mixture to a boil In a saucepan
- Using a candy thermometer, boil the sugar water mixture until the temperature reaches 300 degrees Fahrenheit. This will take approximately 5-10 minutes. THis is the hard crack stage if you use the water method of testing if the mix is ready.
- When the sugar water mixture has reached the desired temperature, dip your fruit skewer into the sugar mixture to coat the fruit.
- Place each fruit skewer on your sheet pan, silicone baking sheet or parchment paper to harden. You can also use something to hold the skewers up right at a slight angle to let it harden without getting a flat side.
- Sugar coating should harden almost immediately.
