Welcome to Weekly Portents, your one and only source for all things prophetic! In Weekly Portents I, the one and only Riven Redwhisper, will be giving a special reading to let you know what to expect at Hogwarts in the coming days, weeks, months, and beyond! But that’s not all, dear reader! The cards tell me you should expect much much more in the future including personal readings to answer questions you’ve submitted, tips and tricks to improve your own Divinations game, and I even have an interview lined up with a real live seer!
What are the Sooths saying? What are the Oracles orating? What are the augers articulating? Check in each week to find out!
11/11/2028
Welcome, dear reader, to the 11th day of the 11th month and the… 10th installment of Weekly Portents. What a bloody missed opportunity!! I’d written such a genius and award-winning article about Arithmancy and Numerology and all sorts of numbery things but I just had to torch it because the numbers disagreed. If only I started this thing a week earlier.
So what am I doing this week instead!? Since it’s getting colder and colder outside I figured we need to get nice and warm and comfortable as we enjoy some hearty and familiar comfort food. Why don’t we enjoy some hearty and familiar “comfort Divnations” too? Maybe a bad analogy but we’re going back to the ever familiar tarot cards.
And we’re doing three cards, same as my previous tarot articles. We keep coming back to three because it’s such an important number in magic and totally not because I’m too lazy to bother with anything more complex. However, I will switch up the spread a bit by doing a triangle spread instead of our past, present, and future lined up in a straight line.
We’ll be drawing three cards and placing one at each corner of the triangle. These cards will be representing the three elements that comprise our very existence! Mind, body, and soul. Since we’re going for the whole warm and cozy and comforting thing I think we’ll just ask for some general guidance for the next couple weeks.
My venue for this reading is quite different from my normal readings. Instead of midnight it’s midmorning and I’m sitting outside on a pile of leaves in front of our good friend, the Willow. I’m wrapped in the thickest blanket I could find with a heavy thermos of hot vanilla tea next to me. After letting the crisp cool autumn air brush over me I begin shuffling the cards. I shuffle and shuffle until my heart tells me it’s the right time to stop then place the three cards in the triangle spread.
I rest my hand on the top card and take a deep breath. First card: Mind. I flip the card over and…
8 of Pentacles, upright
Ah, an interesting card for the “mind” position. It signifies hard work and diligence and all that. Maybe the cards are telling us we need to study more?
Let’s check the next card. The card to the right represents the body. With no hesitation or waiting this time I flip it…
7 of Pentacles, reversed
Ok, another card that’s all about hard work. Usually represents the end results of all that hard work. Could be relating to a failure or loss, unfinished business, or hard work not paying off.
This only leaves the last card to the left. The soul card. Once more I flip and what do I see…
The Magician, Upright
Oh a very powerful card indeed and yet another that’s all about our achievements. It often tells us that we either have an opportunity to get something we want or will have an opportunity very soon.
Seems the cards are giving us a specific message! We need to focus our energies on our mental and emotional endeavors rather than the physical. Let your body hibernate a bit this winter while you work on the brain things instead. Or maybe it’s more of a “work smarter not harder” sort of message. Take some time to focus on using the strongest muscle in your body: Your brain.
That’s enough for this week. Come back next week for more of the same but probably different.
