Current Holder of the Inter-House Quidditch Cup: Gryffindor
Understanding the Inter-House Quidditch Cup Standings
Categories Explained
- House: The name of the Hogwarts house team (Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw).
- Win: The number of matches won by the house.
- Draw: The number of matches that ended in a draw.
- Loss: The number of matches lost by the house.
- Points For: The total points scored by the house in all matches.
- Points Against: The total points scored against the house in all matches.
- Points Difference: The difference between “Points For” and “Points Against”. It is calculated as:
Points Difference = Points For – Points Against - Score: The total score for the house, often calculated by assigning points for wins, draws, and losses. Here, each win is worth 3 points, each draw 1 point, and each loss 0 points.
- Games Played: The total number of matches played by the house.
- Movement: The change in the house’s position compared to the previous week. A positive number indicates a rise in rank, a negative number indicates a drop, and zero indicates no change.
- Week Before Positions: The position of the house in the standings from the previous week.
How Standings are Determined
- Win/Loss Ratio: This is the primary determinant. The ratio can be inferred from the “Win”, “Draw”, and “Loss” columns. A higher number of wins increases the house’s position, while losses decrease it.
- Points Difference: If two houses have the same Win/Loss ratio, the Points Difference is used to break the tie. A higher Points Difference (more points scored than conceded) indicates a stronger performance and thus a higher ranking.
By looking at the Win/Loss ratio first, and then Points Difference if needed, we can determine the standings of the houses in the Inter-House Quidditch Cup.
