Acceptable Vs Not Acceptable Hogwarts Pets
Approved Pets
RATS:
Small, adorable rodents who are loyal, yet short-lived pets.
Pros: Cuddly, can train to scurry about with notes, great for practicing transfiguration, useful for myomancy, & can be potion ingredients upon their death (I guess…if that’s how you feel about a member of your family)
Cons: These little babies will only live 2-5 years
OWLS:
Majestic, birds of prey
Pros: Long lifespan, letter & package delivery masters, can find people without an address, incredibly intelligent, understand wixen speech, amazing fliers, & beautiful
Cons: They bite, they poop everywhere, the WILL find you like the muggle Duolingo owl, not the most cuddly
CATS:
Fluffy, cute, snugly, & fierce small mammals
Pros: Low-maintenance, often affectionate, social yet independent, great companions, possibly very protective, can be part-kneazle, & very clean
Cons: Shed a lot, often temperamental, might try to eat your friends’ rats, bird murderers,
overly curious (sometimes to the point of disaster), & they can and will scratch your eyes out if they hate you
PYGMY PUFFS:
Miniaturized puffskeins aka tiny, rolly, squeaky, fluffy balls of adorable
Pros: The snuggliest pet, comes in pastel colors, will keep your dorm dust and insect free, will feast on your bogies at night for better breathing, hum adorably, & have hair useful in potions
Cons: May get stuck in small places, will make you want more, & may make you look cuter
TOADS:
Tail-less amphibian. Basically a drier, wartier frog who prefers land instead of water
Pros: Pocket-sized, useful for testing spells and potions on (HUMANELY!!), absorbs potions through skin instead of ingestion, pro hoppers, camouflage well, & are very loyal
Cons: Not very popular even if they’re awesome & eat insects (if that’s not your thing)

Creature Features
Technically not approved, but people have them
This author doesn’t recommend the possession of these creatures since they are technically against Hogwarts rules. However, there are many who keep the following creatures as pets, so it is important to be well-informed about what might be seen.
Maybe one day they will be officially allowed?
FLAILTAIL SNAILS:
Often blue, gastropods
These are predominantly seen at Hogwarts within racing and betting circles. They are usually found in damp areas and have been seen a handful of times in the dungeons. Their tails swipe a bit, which can add a bit of a fun flair to the snail races.
HORNED SLUG:
Literally their name explains them
It is unclear why some students of Hogwarts like to keep these very ordinary slugs as pets. One possible hypothesis is that they may be trying to save them from use as a potion ingredient. Although, maybe some people just find them cute? Either way, you do you. They’re not dangerous so, have at it, I guess.
KNEAZLE:
Cat-like Magical Creature
If you managed to sneak one of these in, count me impressed. They have oversized ears and a lion-like tail. They are incredibly intelligent, probably always judging you, and simply the coolest. They are very loyal if they choose to like you. They can also pick out untrustworthy people and have been known to act aggressively towards them. Just don’t be a sketchy liar, and you should be fine.
FLOBBERWORM:
Literally just a worm that secretes useful mucus for potions and stuff
Why do you have this as a pet? This is probably the most boring choice you could ever make. I guess it might be useful to keep a few around in the event that you want their mucus for a potion, but they literally just sit there and eat. Again, you do you, but maybe get your head checked by Miss Jo.

Creature Features
DO NOT EVEN TRY TO MAKE THEM YOUR PET
I don’t even know WHY I need to make this page, but HERE WE ARE.
Maybe it’s because people keep trying to go around petting DRAGONS or bringing some really dangerous creatures into the castle. Either way, DO NOT MAKE THESE YOUR PETS. Holy shit. Do I even need to explain?? I’m just going to give you a collage. Please be SMART. How in the hell some of you have lived this long is a mystery.
These all will MAIM YOU and/or KILL YOU. Don’t be that guy. Use common sense.
Then again, maybe it’s NATURAL SELECTION at this point.
[There is then a collage of illustrations of the following creatures: Dragon, doxy, dementor, matagot, ashwinder, grindylow, kelpie, cockatrice, dugbog, vampyr mosp, and quintaped]
