Hallo all! Welcome back to Hogwarts our Home away from home!
It’s me again, Titania and I know I’m just a second year but I learned a LOT my first year! Like all about the food in the great hall is and how we are super lucky to have the house elves to make it!
So first thing you should know is, despite what you may have heard from other places, the food in the great hall is AMAZING. The castle elves cook it all and they are some of the best cooks anyplace ever. It all tastes amazing. Nothing is ever burnt, under/over cooked or over/under seasoned! You will never go hungry at Hogwarts.
And they know so many recipes! The different types of food they can make is endless. And anything they get surprised with and don’t know how to make, they learn super fast! I’ve seen that happen even, as we have Professors from all over the world and some of them ask for things from where they are from. You can even leave them a note for special foods yourself if your parents are from another country.
And if you have diet restrictions due to your religion or personal preference no worries! Somehow the elves know and will make sure your food is Kosher, Hala, Vegan, or whatever it is that you need or want. Also isn’t it great that we as Wixen don’t have the food allergies like Muggles do?!
So now you’re likely wondering just what sort of things might you find? Well lets see..
At breakfast you’ll find all the usual foods you are used to from living in the British Isles. Full fledged Breakfasts with all fixings. Eggs cooked anyway you want, Rashers and rashers of Bacon. Potatoes in a few ways. Many different kinds of bread for toast and jams in all the flavors. Oatmeal, all the Fruits, Pancakes, waffles, breakfast pastries of all kinds. Even boxed cereals like Pixie puffs and Cheeri Owls! Which the elves obviously don’t make but bring in. Just about anything you might want for either a quick grab and go breakfast or a full sit down and savor it. And of course drinks to wash it down with. Teas, coffees, juices, milk and even boring ol water.
Onto lunch! Name a type of sandwich and you can find it on the tables. Soups of all kinds! Salads galore! Cornish pasties, toad in the hole, Fried foods of all kinds. Hot dogs, hamburgers, even pizza! Curries galore, Chicken of all kinds. And sometimes even sushi! The perfect things to keep you going in a day full of classes and fun. And to drink it’s not only what we had at breakfast but add in fizzy fun drinks! PLUS to end it all there’s some simple desserts, like Just about any cookie you can think of, and all the cupcakes!
Dinner time is for a big substantial meal of substance. So they will serve us up roast, just about anything. Platters and platters of Seafood. Vegetables cooked myriads of ways. Heaps and heaps of jacket potatoes with enough toppings to make a meal out of one! And also more soups then you can shake a stick at. Savory pies of every kind. So much pasta! This is also when they like to slip in international foods so you could find Stir fries, Chicken Tikka Masala, tandoori, gyros, Kabobs and oh just about everything. Pastas and seafoods and. Just so much to pick from! Desserts are bigger and better for dinner, pies and cakes and trifles that look like they will fall over. And all the drinks are the same.
And then on Sundays we have a very special dinner at lunch time. At that we get weekly announcements and news from our Professors and the heads of the school. And usually the meal has a theme. Sometimes it’s big roast dinners with all the sides and Sometimes it’s themed around a particular areas cuisine. It really lets you learn about the ways other countries eat and expand your food knowledge!
OH OH OH
I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT THE SOOPER SPECIAL FEASTS!
Like the one we had at sorting! There’s a Halloween on with ALL kinds of candy and pumpkin foods and other treats! Then I’ve heard if you stay for Christmas or Easter Breaks they have big feasts and everyone eats at the professors table. But I went home for break so I cant tell you much about those.
And there you go. Food in the great hall is just…really really good and there’s so much of it and so many things TO eat! You could eat something different for every meal all 7 years here! Really! It’s great!
