At the start of every school year, there is an excitement and a buzz that fills the air. The combination of getting back to the castle, getting to see you friends you might not have seen all summer, and the anticipation of what magic is to be learned gives you that drive to want to return to school. Despite it all though, each and every one of us at one point or another comes to miss home. It can be rough and we all deal with it at some point. Missing home can be just something as small as a view from a window to a certain smell, to a food you might miss. You know the kind I am talking about, your family’s secret recipe.
Two years ago when I left my family and came to Hogwart’s, I was 11 scared and felt lost and from time to time just wanted to go home. It was then that I thought about all my trinkets and treasures that adorned my dorm room bed. One by one I looked to all my things. The Trunk of Glitter, my Nana’s old Ravenclaw hat, the collection of Crystals that were in a small velvet pouch beside my bed. The more I looked to my things the more I just wanted to share with someone about my family and me. This is where I got the idea for Pieces of Home. It was also when I revealed one of my most prized and sacred of possessions, Buster.
This year, Pieces of Home is back and wants to introduce each and every one of you to your fellow schoolmates! Think about what you brought from home that means the most to you and what you would like to share to help people get to know you a bit better. This little eagle will be fluttering about wanting to ask you, “What is your Piece of Home?” See you all soon!
