The penultimate match to this year’s Hogwarts Quidditch Cup kicked off the merry month of May, and what a match it was – I’ve only just gotten over the whiplash.
This was perhaps the quickest match I’ve seen in my time at Hogwarts, so quick in fact that it was a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ affair. Points were being scored left and right, mostly right into Ravenclaw’s goal, bludgers were doing what they could to put the brakes on to no avail, keepers were whizzing back and forth across the hoops like flies at a lamp until Sila Warrington of Hufflepuff caught the snitch in just FIVE minutes, stealing the record from Slytherin seeker Marlee Hart right from under her.
And that’s all I can say on this match, I’m afraid. It was so fast I couldn’t tell what was going on, all I saw were yellow and blue blurs racing this way or that. What I can tell you however is this match has decided third and fourth place. Hufflepuff secures third place with their first and only win of this season, and also just barely manage to finish the season with a positive points difference. Ravenclaw however finish in fourth place with no wins and a negative 480 points difference – a huge fall from grace for last year’s Cup winners and a sad, sad sight to behold.
The season’s not over yet though, faithful readers! In just over a week we will see the final match, Slytherin vs Gryffindor, and what a huge match it’ll be. It’s come right down to the very last match of the season. The winner of this one will be taking the Quidditch Cup. And with both teams looking incredibly strong it could be anyone’s game – though Gryffindor go into the match with a disadvantage. Gryffindor need to win this match outright to take the trophy, but given Slytherin’s huge points difference compared to Gryffindor’s, Slytherin only needs a draw to take the cup home, as remember, if two teams have the same match points (3 for a win, 1 for a draw) then we decide the winner by the two teams’ points difference (their points scored minus points conceded). Gryffindor will need to bring absolutely everything they have if they wish to dethrone Slytherin.
I for one cannot wait to see
Slytherin utterly crush Gryffindor which team comes out on top, and I hope you’re all just as excited. This season has been an absolute rollercoaster, and we’re finally coming up to the last gut-wrenching corkscrew. See you on the 25th.
