Fear not, the Hogwarts Spotlight has returned! As always, we are dedicated to showcasing different students from around the school. Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with none other than the Owl Post Junior Editor, Julia Vitrac (though she does prefer to go by Jules). Hailing from Portsmouth by Southsea in a small house by the water, she is a fourth year Slytherin!
When one thinks of the house of Snakes, characteristics like ambition, cunning, strong leadership and achievement-oriented are what Salazar valued most. With this in mind, Jules would certainly be considered an ideal Slytherin. She strongly feels that her ambitious-nature was a major determining factor in her sorting. Furthermore, she details, “I have a goal I’m working towards in my life and I when I want something achieved I push forward until it’s done! So there’s no doubt in my mind I’ll achieve what I set out to do.” While the Sorting Hat does look at each student’s most prominent traits, it is always prudent to bear in mind how multi-faceted each of us can be. Thus, Jules points out that Ravenclaw could have been a possibility with respect to how much effort she puts into her studies and how “[her] desire to learn could place [her] quite comfortably in there.”
Jules shares that her favourite class would be potions; however, Defense Against the Dark Arts does come in as a close second. True to her ambitious nature, she already has plans for her future upon graduation, “I want to be an Auror who seconds in Potioneering. I have a lot of work ahead of me but I can do it!” Her future career prospects certainly falls in line with her most favoured classes. [Writer’s Note: Between you and I, there seems to be a bit of a Hufflepuff in her, as well.] Despite how driven and academically focused she is, she does find time for recreation. She enjoys art and even has a painting in her dorm room that she is currently working on. Alas, dear readers, she has yet to share it with people, but perhaps one of her dorm mates might be convinced to look under the canvas. As for her favourite memory of Hogwarts so far? “Late night hang out sessions in the common room. There’s nothing better than hanging out with your mates watching the squid through the glass!”
For the rapid fire questioning part of the interview, Jules professes that she is not fond of sweets; however, her favourite ice cream flavour at Fortescue’s is Apple Crumble, and her favourite sweet from Honeydukes are chocolate frogs. When asked about her favourite professional quidditch team, she did get a little… passionate about it. Instead of summarizing her response, here’s the full dialogue:
Rylan Worthington: So like… I’m not sure if you’re into quidditch. Brooms scare me, but if you are, what’s your favourite quidditch team?
Julia Vitrac: Ireland of course! What kind of silly question is that? No one better! Really! I got to see a game a few summers ago, and when I tell you there’s nothing like it, I mean there’s absolutely no experience better than seeing Ireland wipe the floor with whoever they face! Especially the Holyhead Harpies.
Rylan Worthington: (Shifts uncomfortably) Oh, okay.
Ambitious, goal-oriented with a healthy thirst for knowledge, and you have the beginnings of a Julia Vitrac. If you see her around Hogwarts, be sure to say hi (she seems like the friendly sort) or ask to see her painting! Tune in next week, when Imogen Featherstone corners a Lion in her common room and interviews the next Hogwarts Spotlight!
