It seems like having an infection has become some form of status as yet another student announced that they are another of one of the school’s werewolves. Though, from what I heard, it was stood on a table at Dinner rather than in the Daily Prophet so a bit less dramatic. I missed dinner. The Daily Prophet owl is never late (just a hint to the next person planning to stand on the dinner table).
I was asked to stand in for Persephone Vitrac – our resident O.W. (Original Werewolf) – for The Owl Post meeting as she was feeling under the weather. Whilst announcing this to the members it hit me; last weekend was not a full moon!
Now there’s no evidence how exactly lycanthropy effects people apart from being bitten and the full moon changing them, beyond that there’s no biological explanation beyond ‘magic’. What if the lunar connections that werewolves have is breaking down? What if they’re no longer able to determine their shift based on the phases of the moon and at every moment we are at risk of a werewolf suddenly roaming our halls!?
And what if Miss Persephone’s absence from The Owl Post meeting was because she was bricked away in a cellar to make sure she wasn’t at risk to us. The Ministry of Magic need to take note of this and do further investigation within the Department of Mysteries to establish safety and decrease the fear felt by this writer! Do werewolves now need to take wolfsbane daily? Will the Ministry decrease the associated costs of the wolfsbane potion to ensure they take it? Or will they just lock every werewolf up? Watch this space!
