Welcome to this week’s installment of the Hogwarts spotlight, a feature dedicated to showcasing different students and professors throughout the school! Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with Abigail Grace Bluetooth. She is a second year Slytherin whose hometown is near Salford but currently lives in Redbridge!
Salazar Slytherin sought students who possessed ambition, cunning, leadership skills and resourcefulness! With this in mind, the Sorting Hat certainly placed Abigail in the correct house! She acknowledges that while she may not be as fraternal as some would want, she is certainly ambitious and resourceful. “My friends have to remind me at times that the chance to be a prefect is years from now, but it doesn’t stop me from trying to show what I am made of to become one in fifth year.” Despite how house loyalty may at times divide us, it is worth noting that each person is more than the attributes that their house is known for. Abigail shares how the Sorting Hat almost put her in Ravenclaw; however, she acknowledges that her fierce loyalty to her friends and work ethic would make Hufflepuff her second choice!
Regarding Abigail’s favourite class, it’s a three way tie between Transfiguration, Charms and Defense. She further explains her choice, “I mainly like working with my wand and trying to do better in spell work. I love transfiguration because I like changing objects from one thing to another. Charms is useful for getting certain tasks done faster. Defense I love because I can use what I learn in the other two classes in offensive ways!” This may come as a slight surprise, considering the fond memories she has of watching her mum brew potions! Her initial career aspirations involved becoming a potioneer like her mum and perhaps seeking a mastery in that subject. This has changed, where she explains, “[…] but after last year, I just do not know what I want to do. I know I want to do something with spells. Maybe become an Auror?”
When Abigail is not in class, she does read a lot. In fact, she once was almost caught past curfew because she fell asleep reading in the library! [There’s that Ravenclaw in her!]. The other thing she enjoys is hanging out with friends, and it is quite rare seeing her without at least one. While she has far too many favourite memories, she was able to narrow it down to two. The first one is, “One of my first favorite memories with Talula Shippe and us just having fun in Muggle Studies class last year. The topic was phones and we had to ‘call in’ a pizza order. I think her and I had way too much fun with that and the cardboard cars afterwards.” She shares her second, albeit slightly sadder memory, “The other one is kind of bittersweet because it was just after Adelaide and Aiden were attacked, and I was visiting her in the Hospital wing. I don’t remember much about the visit but I do remember that I transfigured a teddy bear for her. My mum used to do that for me when I was younger and had to go to the hospital. The one thing I could remember is that the bear I made for her turned out much better than I hoped!”
For the rapid fire questioning part of the interview, Abigail tells us that her favourite ice cream flavor from Fortescue’s is really any that has cookie dough and is topped with sprinkles and caramel. When asked about her favourite professional quidditch team, “I don’t really watch professional Quidditch much but my favourite team is the Holyhead Harpies. I just love watching them play and their tactics,” and her favourite sweet from Honeydukes are chocolate frogs — though she does blame the cards and perhaps exploding snap and the taste of the chocolate has grown on her!
Ambitious, loyal and overall just super friendly, you have the makings of Abigail Grace Bluetooth! Don’t be afraid to say hi to her, and if you need an ice breaker…. well, just toss her a chocolate frog! I’m certain she’ll appreciate it. Tune in next week, when Imogen Featherstone stalks a professor long enough to grab an interview!
