Welcome to the first installment for this year of the Hogwarts Spotlight, a feature dedicated to showcasing different students and professors throughout the school! Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with Marlee Moon Hart, a first year from the noble house of Slytherin whose hometown is London!
Slytherin values cunning, resourcefulness and ambition; however, one of the other qualities is loyalty… amongst each other. From her perspective, Marlee explains what makes her fit with her house. “I think I fit into Slytherin because.. because I like feeling like we’re a family. I’ve only known the girls in my dorm for two weeks and already I feel like I’d do anything for them. They’re my sisters and I look forward to spending the next seven years here with them.” While the Sorting Hat does place each student in the house they feel best represents the sum of their parts, students are more than the characteristics that their house exemplifies. When asked what other house she might belong to, she points out that her mother is a Hufflepuff, and her father is a Slytherin — though she isn’t close to him. While unsure, she does explain, “I’d want to say maybe Ravenclaw because I actually enjoy riddles and the color blue,” but ultimately, she feels she wouldn’t be as happy in any other house.
Regarding Marlee’s favourite class, she is still trying to figure it out. However, some of her favourites could potentially be Astronomy, Care of Magical Creatures and Charms. Typically, this is where we ask the student what plans they might have after Hogwarts, but she is only a firstie; however, we asked the question anyway! “I’ve no idea really. I still have seven years to think on it.. right? As silly as it might seem, I sometimes dream about playing my violin in a band. That’s not very practical though, I suppose.”
When Marlee is not in class or getting into trouble, she can be found studying or spending time with Hayden or her sister Aveena. Touching on the chords of nostalgia for many older years and their first year at Hogwarts, Hayden also spends her time exploring the castle and learning her way around. As for her favourite memory thus far? She has quite a few, “seeing the castle for the first time! That was cool. And being sorted! And meeting my new best friend Hayden Sorel! Just everything about that first day was just absolutely wonderful… though.. Jayden Witherspoon did embarrass me a bit that day.”
For the rapid fire questioning part of the interview, Marlee shares that her favourite professional Quidditch team is, “the Holyhead Harpies. My mum and I are both fans. We have to support our witches in the sport. I think they can be seen as an inspiration to witches everywhere. We can be just as tough. We can play just as hard. Plenty even harder.” Sounds like we have a potential quidditch player for the Slytherin team in the future! When asked about her favourite ice cream flavor from Fortescues, she names salted caramel blondie, banana, toffee apple, chocolate, mint and orange marmalade, although those are subject to change. As for her favourite sweet? There are too many to mention but anything with chocolate, fruity, cinnamon or mint is a safe bet!
Mischievous, curious and with quite the sweet tooth, you have the makings of a Marlee Moon Hart! Be sure to say hi to her if you see her in the corridors (she seems friendly enough). Unsure how to start a conversation? Ask her if she’s sorted out the upper levels of the castle yet! Tune in next week, when Imogen Featherstone pulls a Ravenclaw out of the library long enough for an interview!
