To the first year muggleborn witch or wizard, welcome to Hogwarts. It’s an honour that you were accepted to be here. Some people might not believe that or even say other wise. Do not listen to them. You are meant to be here. You are meant to be here for this time and place. Things might seem a bit weird but that’s okay. This is a small article filled with tips for the muggle born to hopefully help you out through this first year.
You are not weird. Well, okay you might be a little weird. But it’s not because you have magic and your family doesn’t. This does not make you weird. It makes you special. You get to bring a blend of the muggle world into the magical world. Do not forget or lose sight of this. There are others here at Hogwarts who have walked in your shoes and understand. Ask around. We’re here to help. This goes for those of you who have always had or suddenly have abilities develop once you arrive at Hogwarts. It’s okay. It’s just another genetic quirk that keep our lives interesting.
Don’t expect to know everything. You are a stranger in a new world. There are going to be things you don’t understand. It took me two years to realize a squib is not the same as a squid. But don’t worry. You will learn the vocabulary of the magical world and fairly quickly at that.
If you ever need help… just ask. A former headmaster of Hogwarts once said, “Help is offered to anyone at Hogwarts, they just need to ask.” Trust me. You are not alone. If you need an ear to listen, come find me. Find a prefect. Find someone in your house. We will listen and help. Trust me, there is nothing new under the sun that someone hasn’t seen…or heard.
So once again, allow me to welcome you to Hogwarts- your future home for the next seven years. Make friends and memories because they will keep you going into the future.
