What is a Niffler?
This is a question some might be asking with the recent loss of, well, all the shiny stuff. It is a rodent type creature with a long snout much like a platypus and a black coat of fluffy fur. There is a pouch on their bellies that can hold so much and is believed to be like an undetectable extension charm. They live in deep burrows that can reach to approximately twenty feet deep. They can produce six to eight in a single litter. They are known to be gentle by nature but can be vicious if provoked. They can also destroy entire homes and sometimes even banks in search of sparkly objects.
Nifflers are also assigned to the curse-breakers by the Gringotts Head Goblin. They have been used in the past for teaching in COMC. How? Professors sometimes set up a game for the students, hiding around leprechaun gold around the grounds. Handing each student a Niffler, whoever finds the most gold wins a prize. Now, if only it was real gold…there could have still been some there. Reading about occasional incidences where some previous students have used Nifflers, we can learn about their traits. Some say at one point, Dolores Umbridge herself was attacked by one but who knows…one might say she wasn’t that trustworthy. Some would also say you can’t actually own one as a pet, but it never hurts to try, though you might not have any valuables left with them.
So, if you come across a creature of this description… Hide all your valuables…extremely well. Also, check its pouch, with a Professor present of course. It might be the one with all of our silverware.
