Welcome to another installment of the Hogwarts Spotlight, a feature dedicated to showcasing different students and professors throughout the school! Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with Kamila Bullstrod, a seventh year Slytherin whose hometown is West Linton, Scotland.
Slytherin values cunning, resourcefulness and ambition. These are excellent qualities of strong leaders; thus, it comes to no surprise that Kamila also is Head Girl this year. From her perspective, she explains what makes her the ideal Slytherin, “I have ambition to do well in life and ambition to do great things.” She is also quick to point out that she is very loyal to those she has personal relationships with – platonic or otherwise. As a gentle reminder that students are made up of characteristics beyond what their house exemplifies, we asked Kamila what other house she could see herself in. “I think, Gryffindor. I’ve been told a few times in the past I’ve shown courage, which is rare. Well, taking on multiple people in a duel I think was one, but I think Gryffindor for that reason.”
Regarding her favourite class, she does not hesitate in naming Charms. “[I’ve] always had a thing for charms. It used to be Defence Against the Dark Arts, but Charms is more in my favour due to how it will coincide with my work.” What work you ask? With her graduation coming at the end of this month, she explains how she has applied for a job creating and designing clothes at two shops. One of which is located in Hogsmeade. Her aspirations once involved being an auror; however, her passion for fashion has led her to her new career goal.
When Kamila is not in class, attending to her Head Girl duties or mothering students, she likes to relax in her dorm, read magazines and currently is focused on finishing a dress before graduation. She also enjoys taking care of Hanz, sketching possible new outfits to create and caring for the younger years. For those who have had ambitions of perhaps catching her eye, she delivers some heartbreaking words. “[I] go for a walk in the grounds when I can, practice the patronus charm, spend as much time as I can with Wolfgang (the boyfriend) each weekend, get prepared for the working in ‘the big bad world’ and try and keep sane chasing after people fooling around. She also shares her favourite memories, “One favourite though at first it was a nightmare was acquiring Hanz, becoming Head Girl and the house dueling competition.”
For the rapid fire questioning part of the interview, Kamila shares that her favourite ice cream from Fortescues is raspberry mixed with chocolate. Her favourite Quidditch team is the German National Quidditch team with their signature move called “The Barrenheim Barrage,” which she feels is an excellent tactic for winning. As for her favourite sweet from Honeydukes? Apparently the Head Girl has quite a sweet tooth, her top five are acid pops, cauldron cakes, chocoballs, chocolate frogs and fizzing whizzbees.
Aspirations set for the future and soon to be realized, but always quick to offer words of comfort to the younger students, be sure to say hi to Kamila when you see her around the corridors! Not sure how to start a conversation? Ask for a hug or toss her a sweet! Tune in next week, when we shine the Hogwarts Spotlight on a Professor!
