Welcome to another installment of the Hogwarts Spotlight, a feature dedicated to showcasing different students and professors throughout the school! Recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with Aisling Rose Opal Jones, a sixth year Hufflepuff whose hometown is located right outside of Galway in Ireland.
Hufflepuff values hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty and fair play. Based on these characteristics, Aisling certainly is a testament to her house. From her perspective, she explains what makes her a picture fit with the Badgers, “I’m hardworking, loyal to my friends and I try to be kind to everyone. Though if they harm my friends, then that goes away.” Duly noted, Ms. Jones! For many students, it is difficult for them to imagine themselves in another house. When asked what other house she might have been sorted into, she explains that perhaps Ravenclaw would be a fit with respect to her creativity.
While it is difficult for her to pinpoint her favourite class, she does explain that as a muggleborn she truly does enjoy learning all aspects of magic. She shares, “I do enjoy [Care of Magical] Creatures a lot as it helps with my art, and Herbology. And I’m pretty good at Transfigurations.” Regarding what class she very much dislikes, “Arithmancy, math is the devil.” Aisling is particularly passionate about her art; thus, it comes as no surprise that she wishes to make her name in the Magical Art world — though she does acknowledge that she knows nothing about it. “Muggle art world I’d have all kinda of help due to my parents. Magical, not so much.”
When Aisling is not in class or doing her duty as a Prefect, she enjoys working on her art with things like painting and drawing. Another thing she likes to do is “goof off with my friends or spend time with my boyfriend.” Hogwarts may be a school of witchcraft and wizardry, and a large part of our time is devoted to attending classes and doing homework. Despite this, often times our favourite memories are made outside of study time (unless you’re a Ravenclaw). For Aisling, it is the “Evening spent watching stars with Marzia and picnics with Archie.”
For the rapid fire questioning part of the interview, Aisling shares that her favourite ice cream flavour from Fortescues is salted caramel with chocolate covered bits of sugar cone, and her favourite sweet from Honeydukes is “Ice mice, sugar mice and sugared butterflies. And most anything caramel.” As for her favourite professional quidditch team? She doesn’t follow any teams outside of school.
Hard working, loyal and passionate about her art with high aspirations for it, be sure to say hi to Aisling in the hallway and offer her a bit of caramel as an ice breaker. Unless, you want to pick a fight with one of her friends, then don’t. Tune in next week, when we shine the Hogwarts Spotlight on a Ravenclaw!
