Once more an anonymous letter has graced the desk of the Owl Post editor, this time a letter not on werewolves themselves but the subject of wolfsbane. An interesting read nonetheless.
I have been thinking since our trip to Hogsmeade if I should write this or not. As we all know the stores in Hogsmeade is out of Aconite. I’m kind of big on conspiracy theories, and wondering if this is more than a local shortage of supplies. You will see where I’m going with this in a bit. We know there are at least some werewolves in the school that rely on wolfbane potion at every moon. Luckily for them, the school can provide the potion for them so they/others can remain safe. This includes during winter break and summer break as well, they receive the potions, however it is up to them if they take it or not. This is only cause the Ministry of Magic can provide them the funds… for now..
I’m not sure if you all know this but with the price inflation due to lack of supplies that a goblet of wolfbane cost about 7000 Galleons per moon or about 84000 galleons per year for each werewolf. For you muggleborns, in your currency it would be worth £34510 per moon or £414120 each year. I come from a rich family and even then I don’t think my family could afford more than a year or two with these prices before running out of funds. I don’t think there are many jobs out that one can get so they can afford this potion.
I also heard a question being asked in class to Mr. Gillespie on why can’t the Ministry of Magic provide the potions to werewolves in need. His response was its too expensive to help out the thirty odd werewolves that are in need. I gave you some basic math above and you can figure out the rest. I’m pretty sure at this point that the muggle National Health System spends more money than that on Chemotherapy and other treatments on their thousands of patients but the Ministry of Magic can’t do the same for the thirty odd werewolves.
I am starting to wondering if someone is destroying or buying up all the Aconite so the werewolves will have no control and end up attacking others. Like forming a new sort of army… This has been tried before in the last wizarding war but it does make you wonder. Between the inability to pay and the lack of Aconite….
