Welcome back to the Hogwarts Spotlight! We return the light back onto Hufflepuff. This time: Caitlin Spector.
Caitlin is a first year Hufflepuff. She has come all the way Belfast in Northern Ireland. Her home has a sea on one side while forests and fields cover the other side, creating such a serene place to grow up. “We can walk on the beach, and we do a lot, or tramp through the forest. The forest feels a bit magical and mummy thinks there might be a fairy ring,” she said, explaining her home further.
When changing the subject to why she think she fits in with Hufflepuff, Caitlin responded by saying that her mother describes her as honest, friendly, helpful, and patient – and so far this year from what I have seen myself, she is. She further said that she is big on treating others fairly and being considerate to them. She also gave another reason as well, stating, “I think the hat put me in Hufflepuff because I’m loyal to my friends and a hard worker and I think everyone, well except for Lord V and his followers, have something good in them.” This made me wonder: was she a definite Hufflepuff or was there a second house the hat had in mind for her? Caitlin quickly answered my thoughts, “Gryffindor. It was pretty much a toss up for me. I can be very determined whether it’s to find something I want, or to finish something I’m doing. I don’t know that I’m brave, but if something’s wrong and I [instinctively] know what might help, I’ve always reached out and done it.”
Switching the subject to Hogwarts subjects, when questioned about her favourite classes, she answered Theory of Magic. “We know spells work. Magical Theory goes into how and why they work,” she explained. Wondering if she would pursue something along the lines of that class, I asked what she currently planned to do after Hogwarts. Oddly enough, it was to create and illustrate books for the community, even textbooks. Maybe in the future, our children will be buying books illustrated by a Ms. Spector!
Outside of class, she likes to study and hang out with her brother and his friends. She further answered, “And when we are on break go swimming with Jake and my muggle friend Sally and go on picnics and to the park with my family. This summer I’ll start helping mummy with her herb garden. She’s really into it and maybe I’ll learn enough to do better at caring for plants in Herbology.” I wonder if she’ll also be practising Swivenhodge, since she said that was one of her favourite memories so far this year. “I don’t know if I scored or not, but zooming around, hitting the ball over the fence, trying to get it if came in my direction, was a blast!”
As this interview wrapped up, we went into the lightning round questions. Caitlin’s favourite ice cream flavor is the Apple Crumble with cinnamon and raisins while a close second is the chocolate and Raspberry with caramel syrup on top. Her favourite sweet are the cauldron cakes from Honeydukes. “Those lovely chocolatey cakes with chocolate mousse filling – Yummm,” she said straight afterwards. Lastly, she currently does not have a favourite professional Quidditch team as she hasn’t seen a professional match yet.
So, if you see Caitlin around the school, give her a greeting, ask her for some help, or maybe talk about illustrating textbooks. Get to know this friendly, helpful badger!
Next week, the light swivels back to Ravenclaw! Stay tuned.
