Welcome to the third installment of the Hogwarts Spotlight, a feature dedicated to showcasing different students, professors and clubs throughout the school! For this piece, we had the opportunity to sit down with Aryiana Novelli, a sixth year Ravenclaw Prefect whose hometown is Swansea, Wales!
Ravenclaws are synonymous with words like intelligence, wit, creativity, originality and wisdom, and in that regard, Aryiana is a testament to her house. When asked about her favorite class, she is quick to reveal her love for alchemy. Regarding alchemy, “It’s my chosen future. It helps you decipher and get in real deep at how we are the way we are. Potions, spells, and how to even create them, or make them stronger. It helps you understand how deep magic can go. I am actually Professor Rourke’s apprentice.” With her clear passion for alchemy, it comes to no surprise that for her career trajectory, she would love to continue her apprenticeship under Professor Rourke’s tutelage and some day being the Professor of Alchemy here at Hogwarts.
Despite Aryiana’s academic accomplishments, notably becoming an apprentice at only a Fifth year and her alchemy book in the works, she says she could have been sorted into any of the Hogwarts houses. “I feel I could fit into anyhow house really. The strong suit of striving to be more then what I was born as I guess stuck me in Ravenclaw to go against the grain. I honestly could have easily been a Slytherin like the rest of my family and cousins, or even a Gryffindor for always fighting for what I believe in even if it gets me in a ton of trouble.” The concept of creating trouble and being a prefect is a paradox in itself. Her penchant for trouble-making is further explained when she discloses how she once was suspended for an article she wrote and another time for successfully casting “flipendo” on Professor Owlsey, who was also a member of the Ministry of Magic.
With her paradoxical disposition, it is only natural that her favorite memories of Hogwarts all involve some level of humor. She reveals, “Favourite memory? Had to have been during class and starting a flash mob with my friend Upton Zero years ago. I did however have a hilarious moment when some guy confessed his love for me wearing only a swimsuit on the duel stage for muggle studies refusing to put his robe on and get off it till I dated him.”
When Aryiana is not busy with her academic pursuits or creating mischief, she is an active member of the Owl Post since her third year, as one of our resident photographers. While no longer part of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, she was a member for the past three years. She is also a major Falmouth Falcons fan, “for the most obvious brutal reasons,” and despite the alluded violence is a lover of all sweets, especially chocolate.
Before the end of the interview, Aryiana shares, “It does not bother me who a person is, we are all beings. At least most of us. I believe that deserves on a certain degree of respect you give is respect you receive. I am a believer in karma. I believe what you put out in this world is a magical force you will receive back in good time even if others find what you do wrong, they may not have the same open mindset as you.” On that note, she is certainly a contrast of characteristics. Perhaps, it is the enigmatic nature of her that makes her the most Ravenclaw of them all. Either way, if you see her, say hi and find out for yourself!
Tune in next week, when we shine the Hogwarts Spotlight on a Slytherin student!
