Hello and welcome to my little part of the Owl Post! I’m Essa Nazari and one of my favorite things to do since, well my second year, has been to master items that you can cook/bake in your cauldron. Why? You might ask. Well, lets just say that desperation becomes the mother of creativity. So let’s get started, after all, the cold winter months are coming and I know that at least in my house, we get the late night study munchies.
This week we’re going to make a personal favorite of mine, Apple Cranberry Oatmeal. This is a perfect recipe for those nice cold mornings that no one wants to get up and leave the warm commons until we absolutely have to. This is a back overnight recipe and will require six hours to fully cook.
Now, before we get started, please make sure you scourgify your cauldron and give it a proper cleaning before and after you make anything because we all know that a lot of potions can have unfortunate side effects. Now, a lot of these ingredients you can get from Abner if you ask nicely or you might want to get them on our next Hogsmeade trip or convince a seventh year to get them for you.
6 cups water
3 cups old-fashioned oats
2 apples, peeled, chopped
½ cup sweetened dried cranberries or raisins
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
Scourgify the cauldron (I cannot say this enough!)
Coat the cauldron with a nonstick spray and then mix all ingredients
Cover; cook on Low heat setting 6 to 8 hours. Serve porridge with brown sugar and milk or cream, as desired.
