Although it’s Summer-time, the students and members of the Owl Post are always working to keep you connected. Homes and especially your bedrooms, as everyone knows, are places of sanctuary and privacy, where you can truly express yourself. A person’s home shows how their everyday life goes, and their bedrooms speak volumes about their personalities. So, we’re visiting and showcasing the homes, bedrooms, and even yards of our dear students. Asking for willing parties, today’s home that we present to you, belongs to one of our professors, Professor Dracheblume!
Yes, this is Dracheblume, one of your teachers, writing an article for you all. I saw the homes shown in the paper when I got back to Scotland over the weekend and got the summer edition. And I know a lot of you students are curious about life in America. So, I thought to show off my house in South Dakota. It’s nestled in the Black Hills near my family’s ranch. We raise cattle and Bison for sale to the local wizarding communities grocery stores and butchers.
Now cows are boring, but I am sure a lot of you have never seen a bison, or buffalo, before so here’s a shot of a mother and her calf. They are huge but gentle beasts and the Lakota have followed the herds traditionally for centuries. Now we just keep the herds on the ranch.
My house, which my family has been upkeeping for me while I am at Hogwarts, is near some waterfalls. And there is no real road to get to it, just a horse path. So it’s hiking, horses, or magical transport to get to it. Thankfully it’s far enough away from most places that I seldom get a No Maj Visitor. Like maybe once every 5 year sor so. Which is good as I do have magical plants in the garden, in the greenhouse and inside the house. And even more important now since Professor Eastwood brought his dog Fenton out and Professor Blackwell asked if we can keep her Tiger Raja on the properly. You’ll have to ask Professor Eastwood about Fenton.
Many of my magical plants I managed to bring with me to Hogwarts so the greenhouse is looking a little sparse right now. Most of the plants left are pretty easy to care for and for some reason one of my Aunts chose to upkeep the vegetable garden. I’m not the only herbolgist in the family, but the one with the most plants. So someone has to come over daily to water the ones I left behind and make sure they aren’t taking over the place.
I have plants inside and out, as you can see on the porch. Also that’s Fenton between Chase and I as we have morning coffee. Well, I have coffee and he has something watered down that vaguely resembles coffee. And the bike to one side is my brothers. Back when we were all at Ilvermorny Chase and two of them put that thing together and spelled it up to make it fly and turn invisible, and I think it shoots fire as well but not sure. They let him use it over the summer. If you want to know more about it you’ll have to ask him.
Now inside! It’s an open plan loft house, so the bedroom is on the second floor but there is no wall blocking it.
Fireplace is needed as even in the summer it gets chilly in the hills.
Small kitchen with not as many cooking herbs as I usually have in it as i’ve been gone. And you can see Chase’s Guitar and some of his critters he brought over. A turtle and a Gecko. And that’s just a statue of a dragon like critter. But it moves and make sound so it might as well be a pet.
And, so that’s my home. Hopefully this slightly sated some of ya’lls curiosity about what its like in America.
