This was written a wee bit back but saved especially for this week. We usually write 10 Questions for Professors and Quidditch players but this week we thought we’d treat you to our lovely Founder, and Editor-in-Chief
1. What do you like the most about working on the Owl Post? What about the least?
C. It’s my baby. I love and will cherish it always. Sad to be gone in a few months, but I know it’ll be in wonderful hands. I love the unity and teamwork, the giggle and fun we all have. Honestly, my only dislike was something that happened last year, and is the reason I’ve stopped writing my own articles. It’s hard, but something I can’t bring myself to do. No, I won’t publish it here.
S. I was never meant to be the Editor for the Owl Post this year but things happen and here I am. The thing I like most about being part of The Owl Post is working closely with Cassie. We became friends this year and seeing her laugh and smile over silly puns or articles is one of the best things. I just want to make her proud. The worst thing… having to chase after people because of deadlines
2. When will we actually start getting paid for this stuff?
S. On the 32nd of Julember
3. Have you ever gotten in trouble for something published? If so, why?
S. I’m going to stare at Cass until she answers this one
C. I’ve been expelled once, in my 6th year, and had my Newspaper almost closed this last fall. The first one was an article I wrote on Fischer, the Second one was an article Rae approved of Ipswich, that I carelessly didn’t read. I was lucky to not be expelled in actuality the first time, thanks to protests, and a second chance from our headmistress.
4. What kinds of things have you guys scrapped, preferably for funny reasons?
C. Most of the articles I’ve personally scrapped, were things I knew would close our paper, or get a lot of issues with the staff and professors. Oh, also got a few creepy requests for dating services through our paper..Was a good read still, though!
S. I bet they only sent in the requests for dating services when you were single!! Nah, the things I’ve had to scrap were always funny but would’ve insulted the “hierarchy” of the school
5. What are your favourite kinds of things to write about? Least favourite?
C. I used to love to report, write the news, anything to spread the word and help everyone be in the know. Honestly, I prefer writing fiction now. Teen Romance is my specialty, and I’ve even had a book published…[out of the..20..written.]
S. My usual article is “An Interview With…” and I like being able to go and chat with people to get articles, usually over breakfast but recently that’s put a dampener on it so ‘A Letter From the Editor’ has been really fun because I get to publish my opinions in the guise of ‘real’ journalism.
6. Do you have a favourite article or column that’s been published? Why?
S. I know Cassie hates it but I am so proud of ‘Rumour Has It’. That was my brain child… or brain fart, whatever you want to call it. Also the writer of ‘Sunday Funday’ does an amazing job and I love dossing out with Cassie in our office making up jokes every Saturday… I’ll really miss that.
C. I love the opinion articles, especially The Problem with Bricks. Probably my all time favourite..but I also love when I get to publish cupid’s corner. It was so sweet to see people’s reactions, or them reaching out to crushes and loved ones. And making Jokes with Saff of course.
7. Do you think it’s important that students have a creative outlet/news source within the school?
S. Yes. 100%.
C. Of course, and I really hope more and more students join the paper, or create an art club, a glee club, something to help express that.
8. What do you make of the whole S.E.R.P.E.N. and Ouroboros stuff?
S. Well.. S.E.R.P.E.N. I’m pretty sure we know who that is but don’t have enough proof.. Do we Cass?
C. I’ve already confronted them. I think my biggest issue with our school is that they’ve attempted to expel students like me, while others like S.E.R.P.E.N and , well..won’t name them all..still walk around scotch free in our school…Ouroboros..I honestly just assumed was the same person.. Was it not?
S. Wasn’t the Ouroboros writing nasty rumours about S.E.R.P.E.N threatening to out them? But maybe that was a ploy… yes that was probably a ploy to protect them
9. What would be your dream article to write?
S. I can see it now. “Inside the wardrobe of…” It wouldn’t be like our reviews of students but we’d get to delve into what professors wear and do interviews… Though I suppose some would say that’s not ‘real’ journalism. Maybe more articles on current events to stop us turning into too much of a tabloid?
C. Originally, when I created the Owl Post, I’d wanted big scoops. The main reasons for issues in our castle, and hoped it could, I don’t know, fix things and be the thing students and maybe even professors turn to. Big interviews and investigations that could solve mysteries.
10. Right then, so now that the term’s almost done, What’re your plans for summer? And for next year?
C. Well with summer, I’m going to make the most of it, Try to see all my friends as much as possible,, travel anywhere I can,, and do all the things I was afraid or couldn’t do before. Next term…I’ll be graduated, Saff will be replacing me,..and I’m not sure what’s next. Year for me. I’ve been writing teen romance novels the past year and a half, and I’ve had one published, so I’d work more on those, as well as possibly a job in the Three Broomsticks so I can still see you all.
S. Summer can’t come soon enough, tights don’t half make your legs claggy in the heat. Pretty sure mam’s going to take me travelling, at least for a week, but otherwise I’ll be (hopefully) apparating between friend’s houses, having guests over and some nice summer parties. Next year is NEWTs for me and I’m pretty sure I’ll be sending Cass multiple owls a day for advice on the Post or.. Other things.. We’re already scouting around for my replacement so I’ll be spending next year training them up too!
