Jocelyn Jango here or, as some of my friends used to call me when I attended Hogwarts, JJ! I’m here to tell you a little bit about my career outside Hogwarts, so let’s get to it, yeah?
I’m a reporter for the Daily Prophet. What I wouldn’t give to have your Owl Post when I was in school. I graduated Hufflepuff class of 2015, a bit old I dare say… It’s so nice to see so many young witches and wizards gathered to report the news and share writing! It’s a great outlet, you know? With all your N.E.W.Ts and O.W.Ls coming up, I can imagine there’s a few of your ready to rip your hair out. Never fear! My advice to you is to write. Even if it doesn’t make the slightest bit of sense, just write! You’ll feel better, I promise!
Working here at the Daily Prophet is really exciting, we’re always the first to know of anything. Trust, and believe, me we’ll be right there, ready to report the action at a moment’s notice. You’d think we had eyes everywhere… but really we don’t. That would be insane! It doesn’t leave a lot of time for family and friends though. Soon enough, however, your Daily Prophet “Family” starts feeling like your real family. My Editor already feels like a parental figure in a way. They work hard, not just to edit our stories, but to keep us in check. If we put a toe out of line they are always ready to reel us back in! Think of them as your own Head Girl or Boy. We certainly do.
When we go out to collect the news, good or bad, you never forget your first bad news. It breaks your heart to write it on paper but there’s some things that just need to be shared. Here at the Daily Prophet we try our best to make sure the news is all good but sometimes those bad news stories are needed.
The Owl Post is really something special, I must confess. Here at the Daily Prophet we have copies sent to us, and when we saw you all posting articles sent in from career fields, we knew we had to get in on that. The Daily Prophet is always looking for fresh new writing styles and our eye is on a few of you students! Try a career in writing for a living! Let the Daily Prophet become your family.
